Rought Ride

I've got the seat adjusted as far as it will go. Not enough......and several others have the issue with the seat tool. It's a suspension seat....but it does not handle 200+ lols very well. I do have loaded tires (beet juice) and will check my tire pressures.

Worth a shot....thanks.

Liquid ballast will make for a rough ride, especially with small tires.

Just a thought, I am running turf tires now which is a switch from the r4s I used to have. Ride is much softer. I noticed there are new radials that appear to be a mixup of the turf and the r4s. Maybe a better ride?

I agree about checking the rear tire pressure. My tractor was delivered with beet juice in the rears. Pressure was WAY too high from the dealership. I aired down until my tires were using the full contact area of the tire cleat with my heaviest implement on the 3PH when parked on concrete. Improved the ride 100%. I also normally keep my heavy Gannon box blade on the rear; the added weight keeps the tractor from bouncing as much, and the ballast is welcome when heavy lifting with the FEL too. I rarely bottom the seat out now, but I sure was before I deflated those tires. I've found the same is true on my zero-turn and UTV; rides like crap when the tires are brick-hard. I like to see a little bit of "pooch" on the bottom side of any tire. It not only improves ride quality, but increases your contact area with the ground, improving traction. Going too low on front tractor tires can cause you to roll the tire off the rim with a heavy load on the FEL though. Proceed with caution if you're lowering pressure in the fronts. Good luck!

My M6040 weighs 10,100# and will bounce me around when on rough terrain.

May I ask what type weights you've added to get your M6040 to over 10,000? My M7040 MFWD with FEL & cast rear wheels with liquid ballast in rear tires only weights 8800#s. I agree tire pressure affects type of ride offered.
Thanks,Jim

About what my M9000 cab tractor weighs as well (cast centers with the FEL on). My M9000 open station weighs about 1000 pounds less..

Tractors in general ride rough unless they have suspension which you can get but will be in a very large tractor like a Fast Trak or a Fendt Vario.

Kubota's have notoriously poor seats and suspension. My cab unit has a Grammer air ride swivel. It's fine. My open station had a Kubota vinyl suspension seat, it left one night and was replaced with a cordura covered high back seat with K&M suspension. Much better. I dislike vinyl seats anyway. Seats and seat bases are all ISO today so mounting is a snap but to go air ride, you'll need a power hookup for the compressor.

I'd say the op needs to go on a diet possibly.....:D

Kubota seats are dreadful at best. My M59 has at best 3/4 inch of suspension travel, the seat is sloped forward and is slippery. Every time I hit a bump it jarrs my lower back then slides me off the front of the seat. Like my zero turn I have to wear the seatbelt or end up out of my seat.

Eventually I will cough up the couple of grand for a new grammar air ride suspension cloth seat with swivel. At least with JD you can spec nice seats along with the platinum price tag.

Those seats are usually from a common vendor like Grammar. Also see optional seats with other brands.
Mine are not dreadful, they air air ride seats made by grammar not Kubota anyway.

simple fact. compact tractors ride rough due to short & narrow wheel bases. sure you can spend thousands on air ride seats & radials that might help a bit. i'd rather put that into equipment
test drives on the dealer parking lot vs field just don't represent the ride well & the dealers should mention that. just the nature of the smaller machine.
even w/feral hog damaged fields, my M series tractor is smooth (for me)...having no physical anomalies for me also helps. the factory seat works just fine
wearing a good elastic back support helps a lot when i use my zero turn.

hope the OP can find a good solution to the uncomfortable ride, best regards

Tx Jim - five years ago - when I got my grapple I drove the tractor into the ADM( Archer Daniels Midland) grain scales. The weight was 10,090# - +/- 20#. I have an 820# grapple on the FEL - 1550# of RimGuard in the rear tires - a 1000+# Rhino rear blade on the 3-point. That weight does not include me nor the later added sun shade.

This had better be correct or a whole lot of farmers in our area might be getting the shaft.

the suspension seat is always bottomed out with my 225 lb frame. What can be done?

This is the problem. Tire pressure will only have a small effect compared to the suspension seat not suspending.

If the seat's weight adjustment is as high as it will go and it's still bottomed out, buy a better seat.

Have been away from my land since posting about this. First thing I will do is check the rear air pressure. I do know that reduced pressures can soften the ride.....just like the ride in my jeep on rough ground.

Seems to me I had read that someone came up with an air "bladder" that helped beef up the seat suspension. Anyone hear of such a thing? I gotta find some solution to this. I like the tractor in so many ways.....but the ride sucks. I do not intend to spend on a seat upgrade.....I simply dont put in that kind of hours.
