Celery is indeed water and fiber with few carbs, sugars, or other calories.

The experts have long said that a 20 calorie stalk takes 30 calories to chew and eat.

Clever Grandpa wasn't lying. He .

I don't have a taste for celery. I don't even like potato salad if it's got celery. Must have inherited that from my Grandpa. He told me when I was about 10 years old "you can eat celery non stop and starve to death because you burn more energy chewing and digesting it than you gain from it." Don't know if it's true but his comment stuck with me. :)

You guys have me busting a gut laugh...I only like it cooked with pot roast and roast turkey.

I won't eat it even with a gob of peanut butter!

The best use of a stick of celery is in a Bloody Mary.

Indeed.

Alternately I chop celery into tiny pieces. (Less work than tying shoes and less often:rolleyes:). When I don't have fresh onion, celery is what I use to make tuna, chicken, or salmon salad salad. Otherwise it's just the Miracle Whip (TM), sweet relish, and whichever animal protein. Once in a while I put it on (wheat) bread, but rarely because keeping fresh lettuce and tomato is a degree more maint than carrots & celery. :p

btw, I hope Terry will serve celery cut short and stuffed with; 1) cream cheese and a dash of paprika for color, 2) both mild and sharp spreadable cheddars (one with paprika for ID), 3) Peanut butter anyway  at the Fall Northwest Meet and Greet this year.

(psst, is it your turn to host again or is Mark up next? .. :scratchchin: ..)

I don't care for celery either, and especially not in my "bacon salad"*! And I don't doubt you would burn more calories eating it than you would gain - but honestly most people don't eat if for its caloric value, rather its crunch.

*my wife makes the best "so-called" potato salad ever. While technically the first ingredient on the list is "potato" the recipe goes roughly like this:

3# red skinned potatoes (skin on)
2# slab bacon
Diced hard-boiled eggs
Mayo - the real stuff (gotta be Hellman's at our house!!)
S&P
you get the picture...

...both mild and sharp spreadable cheddars...]

Now THAT is an oxymoron if ever I saw one! :D:laughing::confused3:

I prefer a cheddar that you need a SHARP and STRONG knife to cut. Ain't no way you're spreading THAT without some kind of mechanical advantage...
