I also have welded re-rod, but I've never found any that was near as good as regular steel...

IF, it works for you, then that's all that matters.

SR
That is yet to be determined, but if I could start over I'd make a 2 hour trip to steel store, maybe someone else can learn from my mistake.

BTW - You were probably, or is it prolly in Maine, hammering pretty hard on that end washer.

gg

Actually all the rods went in better then expected, some went in real easy, just the last one got hung up in the middle wher that one was rising up, the first one was the one that broke.

Would you buy a nice stick of cold roll?

Yup if I was gonna build another 6x6 bridge, seems like a waste to have 5' of threaded rod when only 4" is only needed.

Suggestion for Oldpath. Cut a hole in the plate for the rebar to extend thru, then weld the rod and plate together on the back side. Doing this makes it so the tension is pulling into the weld rather than away from the weld. As was mentioned, rebar is junk steel so a weld may stick to it or it may not.

BTW, nice project.
Yup did that with plasma.

You're right! That's a nice bridge and you did an impressive job on it. I'm looking forward to seeing pics of it being installed and finally in place.

Hey OP.. looking good!! Nice project! So how much weight at what span will it carry do you think?

And are you sitting it on some sort of pylons or just on the ground?

And I'm thinking you need to update your clamps..

Weight limit would require to much math, not one of my strong attributes but would be interesting to know. The 6x6's are 16', planning on 3' on each end to rest on ground, so that will leave 9' open air to hold a 6000 lb-ish tractor.

Each 3' end will sit on tar paper, that will sit on ground.

Those heavy duty Dewalt clamps are great to have, I could use about 6 more, I have 2 Irwins and they dont work as good.

Keep in mind this is only one half, there will be two panels of 5' x 16-ish.

Time to load up with step one, first get some oak runners on so to drag the bridge on to, then make something for a unload ramp, the unloading worked great in my head but tomorrow hasn't arrived yet.

It should be interesting, I hope that you make an actual video of setting it in place.
With a 9 foot span you only will be supporting the entire weight of the tractor on the ends; as your rears are going onto the bridge your fronts will be just leaving it. You should be fine.

Don't you think that it would go better though, if there was another axle on the front of that trailer? :stirthepot:
