Much of today's rebar is made from (mostly) new billet steel...(use to be designated with an "N")...type "S" is even more stringent in the compound...

I guess I'm not sure what you are trying to say. All steel is in billet form at some point in its process prior to being a finished product. The material going into the billet is more refined and controlled as the quality of the material goes up.

I think his comment is kinda a rebuttal to the statement that re-bar is junk, porous, unweldable steel,,

Re-bar should be pretty good steel, if it is gonna give tensile strength to concrete,,

A walkway in Charlotte at the NASCAR racetrack fell one Sunday, after a race, when the walkway was filled with race fans,,
The re-bar was blamed,, I do not remember the details,, the re-bar might have rusted,, or something,,

The re-bar in my garden has been holding up tomato plants for over a decade,,
It must be pretty strong,, my wife grows some pretty BIG tomatoes!!

I will be welding some rebar shortly for reinforcement. I never had an issue welding rebar. In critical engineered projects, it is not permitted, as it changes the properties of the rebar.

I think almost all concrete bridges rely more on tensioned steel tendons for holding them up than the rebar.

Re-rod is made from junk steel, it's porous and doesn't weld well at all...

I was thinking just the opposite, like one step above regular steel and stronger then threaded rod, and it didn't look porous to me. Maybe regular round rod would've been better but that requires going to a freeken steel store tying up 2 hours as appose to just calling up the local lumber yard. I called in morning, took 5 minutes, they delivered in afternoon and I said in couple days would've been fine, hows that for service for just $54.00...........

You were probably a bit tired and overheated by the time you got to welding that one, maybe if you had a swimming pool to cool off in between welds, you would've probably been ok!!

I've been lurking on this thread for quite some time. I really appreciate all the posts. Did some moving of wood last Saturday YouTube My son-in-law did the filming and editing. I would not done nearly as nice of a job.

I've also purchased a WoodlandMills WC68 chipper and a 3501 Igland winch. The chipper arrives Thursday and the possibly the Winch will arrive then too. Lots of new toys I have been wanting for many years. I have a ton of brush to chip from all the trees I took down to give my wife's vegetable garden more light. Also helped the neighbor with a bunch of trees as well so there is a lot there to chip too. We let the chips break down and they make some nice soil in time. I will make some videos as able.

Well your SIL did a good job on the video but dont I cringe everytime I see someone lifting logs with no top forward stops.

I'm thinking if I had a pool I wouldn't be fooling around with rebar to begin with......

I also have welded re-rod, but I've never found any that was near as good as regular steel...

IF, it works for you, then that's all that matters.
