Rake Landscape Rake Purchase

My method was to back up to the edge of the woodline and pull the gak in the direction of the pile. When I got a good rake full (of dirt and debris), I would lift the rake slowly and roll the debris up on top of the dirt windrow.

I would time all of the “rake lifting” about the same, so all of the debris was in a row or close. Then I would idle the tractor perpendicular to the windrow and, with a stone rake, pick it up and throw it in the bucket. After I cleaned the windrow, I would re-rake the area to make it smooth. It did take a long time, because the debris came from a swamp dig-out which was buck brush.

It is now clean, limed, cultipacked and waiting for rain.

Looks beautiful. Nice job.

I very much appreciate the input from everyone on this topic. I read each reply, did some thinking and decided to try the Ratchet Rake.

After reviewing the area and stuff that I will be cleaning and after having used the flail mower in some of these areas, I realized how much time I would spend turning around in my seat and driving my tractor backwards with a landscape rake. With the RR, I will be forward and able to judge the distance between the trees that I want to keep.

The 68” RR was several dollars less expensive than a 72” TSC/Tarter landscape rake and if it works as well for me as what I’ve seen on the YouTube videos then I’ll be happy.

Thanks again for the advice, experience, discussions and your time spent to help.

Good luck! From what I have seen, RR seem to work best going backwards. Seems they tend to want to dig going forward. If you find that you need to use it in reverse, consider putting chains across the bottom of your bucket and up onto the back then attach the straps, to greatly reduce wear on the straps.
Yes they are much cheaper.

Thanks CoyPatton. What I meant was I would be facing forward and pulling backwards instead of facing backwards and pulling forward. Do you suggest using chains instead of the cables provided? I could see that for more stability and surface tension.

I was think chains would stand up to the brush as it rubs, pokes and whatever than cables and straps as you back drag a variety of types on materials. Especially if you encounter any thorny brush or rocks. Web straps and twisted metal cables usually suffer quickly from those types of use/abuse.
