Okay here is today痴 example of senseless waste.

As mentioned earlier one of my tenants company in our maintenance yard had been hired to work with commercial landlords and their tenants.

Today he cleaned out the contents of an office complex and among the items removed from the board room was this giant TABLET ( no not just a flat screen TV).

Cisco 55 inch touch screen approximately 100 pounds. In good working order when removed. Retail list price $33,000.00. We found a web site that had them on sale for $28,500 though...

NOT to be resold. NOT to be repurposed. NOT to be donated.

Destined for certified and documented destruction before recycling of parts.

Per a previous post, I suspect that they are afraid of (whether legitimately or not ) that there is cached data on it that they don't want falling into the wrong hands.

If it were mine, and I was afraid of that (as if I had data worth pilfering...) I would pay someone the $1000 to make sure that all memory is erased x7 and then sell it for the bargain basement price of $5000. But probably they don't have anyone on staff that commands a low enough salary to make that worthwhile. I mean, in order to be worth the $4000 "profit" you would have to be earning less than $500/hr assuming it took 8 hours (I think a day is a reasonable estimate of the time it would take to research, photograph, create and publish an ad, deal with buyers, complete the sale, etc). Hard for me to comprehend - at my best I hope to earn $200/hr. But at the same time I understand that there is rarified air up there that I have only a hint of.

And there are more than one of these units. Apparently one at each location. Not certain how many. They and all the regular computers will be gathered at one site to be destroyed all at one time.

Apparently the owners of the computer hardware were nickel and dimeing my tenants company over the quote. How much for moving boxes ? How much for the packing tape???

Sad but funny.

That just seems outright stupid to destroy them.

America was founded on common sense. Somehow it has figured out how to survive in spite of lack thereof.

Oh, that was in Canader, eh? Never mind.

Take far away pictures of destroying an old TV of that size.....

There are 60" 4K smartboards now for around $5000.

That Cisco would have to fly me around like a magic carpet before I'd pay even used prices for it.

There was a time when we were warned that recycled printers retained cached data/pages that should be cleared/deleted before turning them in.

Isn't it like big biz & shaky investors to throw away big $$ for a paltry tax saving? I've done it, but we only pay taxes on net gains so ...
