Traded in My 2014 3016 Shuttle Shift w/loader for a New 2638 HST Cab on Spet 13th 2019.
So far i love it! couple minor things i need to adjust for my larger and taller profile. but over all its good!
I kept all my attachments & implements ill update my info asap.
Haven't gotten to enjoy it much, been sick the last 3 days or so... but getting better slowly.

on another note, i will be happy to share my 3016 service manual. everything is on PDF Format. Covers 3016-3616 has service manual, loader manual, operators manual shuttle & HST versions.
also i can share my 2638 service manual if anyone wants it as well (PDF), i think i applies to the 2538 as well. just pm me and i can probably email them.

I traded 2010 3016 to a new (2019 model I think) 2638 - I use it for moving ash tree logs dead due to emerald ash borer, i have probably 100 60' tp 80' dead trees, I have cut and moved near 50 of them with the 3016. i have CID 42" forks. When I tried to lift a log with the 3016, if it was too heavy, it simply did not lift it, sometimes it would lift it a foot or so off the ground but that was ok, I could still move it because the fork tips could be lifted to hod the log on. When I try to lift similar logs with the 2638, the fork tips fold down so the log rolls off - they don't bend, they fold down from the pivot joint - very disappointing. Dealer says all hydraulics to specs. I would like to know if you can lift round bales with your spear. While moving a scrap wood pile, the forks folded down as I was moving forward - result was that the fitting at the lower end of the loader cylinder separated from the cylinder, spilling lots of hydraulic fluid and obviously dsabling the forks/loader. Don't know the results of that yet. I note that you had to adjust for your height - I am 5'6'' and when I move seat to accommodate HST pedals, the brakes are too close - also since I have short arms, if I move the steering wheel to a comfortable position, it would be very difficult to get off the seat in a hurry.

Yes the loader kinda sucks.... probably the use of cheap internal seals causing bypass imo.. my 2638 is at the dealer right now waiting to get the steering cylinder replaced. It bypasses internally...... i had to remove the brake pedals off the shaft they move on and cut n weld the pedals. Looks like factory but shorter.i drilled new holes in the seat mounting bracket to move it back about 1.5 inches....you could unhook the quick coupler for the bucket cylinders and try to lift something, see if they still creep out. If not probably the valve.should check mine as well....and yes i have lifted some rounds this past winter but there not very big. My 3016 lifted our 4x5 rounds when we had the farm. The rounds i moved were 4.5x4.5 made with old chain baler.... i think its just cheap seals that get used.

I think the loader issue is due to different manufacturer of hydraulic pump/valves. “Float” position doesn’t work efficiently and my joy stick locks in float position at times and requires extra pull to get it unstuck. I understand that the dealer checked all hydraulic components in the month he kept it, still don’t understand why forks release or why loader cylinder came apart. I am surprised that you can lift round bales with 2638. I would like to “ borrow” your service manual but pm” means. Thanks for response!

Does anyone know price of new John Deere, kubota, or Massey that is comparable to mahindra 2638? About 37.5 hp, but gear, not Hst?

those round bales i was picking up were not that heavy... 600-800 LBS max.
i briefly inquired about a Massey Ferguson 1740M CAB when i was pricing out things. they would only give me maybe $5k for my 3016 at most(book value apparently). and the cost of the 1740M was like $55k....(dealer was in Alberta and only 1.5 hrs from me). I finaced everything. i financed $43k with all the options i added. Green was out period, i wasn't buying all new front attachments i had & similar model bare bones was like $45k (3038E i think) Orange was almost as bad as Massey's price and local dealer ticket me off few years back. currently only 1 TYM dealer in BC down near the border. the other orange i didn't really consider but there down the road from the mahindra dealer in Prince George... most won't take Mahindra on trade or severely low ball you. that's the word or feeling i got pricing.

You may be able to isolate the problem by doing some testing.

my FEL started acting like what you describe a while back.

The lift cylinders would hold height just fine- but the curl function would slowly drift down and require feathering the control to keep the bucket level to move heavy objects.

The first test I did was to swap the lift cylinder lines with the curl lines at the valve block
The problem stayed with the curl cylinders which confirmed the leakage was not in the valve block.
At this point I took the Curl cylinders apart and found damaged seals.

Sourced ebay ones and was back in business for about $20.

Also think your dealer is full of it Saying that it is "In Spec" No way the curl should drift that quickly

This should be a warranty issue- ?

Dealer came to look at cylinder, says it "should be" a warranty issue. Forks have sagged, drifted, faded since hour one - some have said causes is a "relief" mechanism to keep you from picking up too heavy an item. Somewhere I read that the relief can be adjusted but that would void warranty. Again, my personal belief is that manufacturer of 2638 hydraulic stuff is different from 3016 hydraulic stuff. 2638 has the useless "float" position that may or may not be cause. Rebuilding the "curl" cylinders might be in the future but if anyone has input on "relief" function of hydraulics, I will appreciate.
Thanks for all responses - it is good to see that many folks have developed mechanical/solution skills far beyond mine. I am up to my eyeballs in alligators in the form of dead ash trees and the 2638 lack of lift/and HST spongy power for pulling down trees, has increased my time to take care of them rather than decreased.

If a hydraulic cylinder moves on it's own in or out, without touching it's controls, it has nothing to do with the pressure relief valve or bypass valve (different name for same item). It is to protect the hydraulic system, mostly it's weakest part, the pump. Adjusting the relief valve does not necessarily void the warranty, as long as you stay within specs but has no affect on a dropping cylinder.

Like stated above, switching the hoses over to a different function helps to isolate the problem.

Any chance you could still share the pdf for the 2638 service manual? I have to do the 50 hour service and this would be handy to have. Thanks.
