I'm getting closer to not burning 12-15 cord per year and wondering what the opinions would be on a smaller saw. Currently I do all my cutting with an 044, 034 Super and a 361. I limb with an 026 pro. If I sold off the 3 bigger ones is there something in the middle between the 026 and 361 that would be a good choice? Or is there just not that much difference? Might not even need to be a pro-saw. There is a huge difference between an 026 and a 361.. ( All have Muff mods )
Thanks.

I am a one chainsaw kind of logger, so I have found my Stihl MS 461 to be perfect as an all around chainsaw.

I do not think a homeowner grade chainsaw would do you a lot of good. 15 Cord is a poke of firewood!

One other point...if you go to being a one chainsaw logger like I am, always keep a spare bar and chain with you. In that way, if you get your saw pinched in a cut, you can just undo the bar and chain that is pinched, put on the extra bar and chain, and cut your original bar and chain free.

I found it is much easier to keep a spare bar and chain on the skidders then to have a spare chainsaw onboard, or have to hike out to get another chainsaw out on the landing.

Broken Track, that is a great idea on removing saw from the pinched bar. I use the two saw setup. Run one till empty or pinched and then cut it loss but if I pinch the second saw first, well then you dial a friend. LOL

I’m clearing a rain forest, a jungle of weedy trees. Thousands of 1-4 in saplings so, might no be the same application but.......I have 2 saws. A echo 310 and a stihl 310. Same model #, very different saws.

The still is a beast! I save him for the bigger trees. Just broke up a 100 year old red oak blocking drive way, no problem. It’s heavy.

The echo 310 was recommended by a county extension guy.. He was right, it starts, it runs, it restarts, it’s light weight and............ it starts and runs and restarts. Always thought they were Chinese. Says engine made in Japan....close.

I had 2 pellet stoves in Oregon, not so popular back east, my days of splitting wood are over. I’m installing a heat pump in the house I’m building only to provide a/c and to have a back up heat source. I love pellet stoves!

At 12 - 15 cords a year you will be much more knowledgeable about cutting than most of us. I’d suggest you visit the dealer and put your hands on available saws to aid in a decision.

You would get excellent responses on the https://www.arboristsite.com/community/forums/chainsaw.9/ .

I have:

  • 34cc Top Handle - Liking better all the time
  • 45cc - Use the most
  • 57cc pro/modded muffler
  • 72cc pro/modded muffler

If I could only have one saw it would be a 50cc pro saw that was Woods Modded

If I was lucky, I would also have a modded top handle saw.

I burn 4-6 cords every year. I am in the two saw camp. I have an Stihl 032 (bought new in 1984) for the bigger stuff, and a Stihl MS200T top handle for the smaller stuff. I find I use the MS200T the most. I like the lighter weight and balance.
