Building Lake Corona

In 1954 my Grandfather had a 2 acre lake put in our place. I barely remember it and creek coming in from springs wasn't that much water. He said it would take forever to fill.
That night Hurricane Hazel came through and filled it.

Without Googling it, I'll guess 37".

You couldn't have guessed much closer. Average is 36.4. Pretty heavy rains last night and a good steady rain here for the last hour.

Ours seems to be spotty. Went to town (15 miles) to conduct some business and eat lunch. I could see different levels of erosion along the roads. Didn't get much runoff here at the farm. Came gently. Had recently rebuilt a roadbank and drainage area with a terrace on a Township road I maintain. Nervously went and checked it. Expected the worst. Got lucky and little runoff there either. Will actually settle the dirtwork and stick it down better so we can get it seeded.

Lucky guess on the rainfall thing. I rarely pay any attention to numbers. If it's dry we are behind. If it's muddy we are ahead. :)

That's very interesting. What longitude are you on?

The 98* is about where the rain fall splits Texas which roughly is along IH 35. East of the 98 meridian we get over 35" and west we get less than 35" generally annually.

If I shoot a flare in a Southerly direction you'll surely see it. If your not down in the timber working on Lake Corona.

Seattle annual rainfall the last ten years might surprise you... 29in. The US average is 38 and most peoples' perception is that it rains a lot here. Actually it rains a lot of days but not much usually. Where we specifically are in Seabeck which is only 20mi away as a crow flies, we're averaging 65in! Both near sea level. Lots of micro climates around here because the close proximity of mountains, and both salt and fresh bodies of water. If you are a weatherman and want a challenge, a good place to be. :D

Normal year for me here in East Texas is 46 inches, but sometimes we we get a lot more, other years, not even close. With all your rain that you are getting there, I was expecting your average total to be a lot higher then mine. I'm guessing you get it more in the summer then I do, where we get hit really hard in the Spring months.

3 inches in one day happens a few times a year. Over 5 inches in one day is the most that I've seen. One to two inches is fairly common.

Mark, your large variance is what I expected in your area.

Eddie, your large number really surprises me initially. Then I think about our weather patterns, especially Southern Missouri near jk96, the rains generally come from your area. I'm at the North end of the State so I get most of mine from the NW.

Twice last year we got very large rains, first was 9" in April, second was 11" in September. Destroys our hilly roads. Last Winter we got tracking snow 26 times. Total accumulation was 29". Largest single snow was 5".
