New garage time!

I have a few squeaks in the hardwood floors here and there. Someday I may look into fixing them, but they are really not that bothersome. The last house I had (1949 build) had so many squeaks you could tell what room someone was in just by listening to the squeaks. Just part of life.

I had one area maybe 3'x3' in my 1yo 3/4" hardwood floors that freaked as I walked over. Bought the special screw kit that breaks the head off and 4 screws later, all gone. Well worth the $25 kit. I HATE squeaks!

You talk like squeaky floors are a bad thing. I live in an old house. I think the squeaky floors are just part of it's character. Probably because it's easier to enjoy the floors squeaking rather than fixing it.

There's probably a glue that will bond to both wood and metal.

I absolutely agree in an old house. This is not.

I think the roofing butyl tape would fit that.
Yes, just wondering if there is something else that is cheaper as it doesn't need to be a waterproof barrier. Butyl tape is pretty expensive.

Might have to be concerned with degradation over time, especially foam. Perhaps butyl caulk, but convenience of the tape may offset.

I don't know if I mentioned this before, I don't think so. I ordered 24' joists for a 24' wide building. That was a mistake. Not only did I not take into account the 12ga thickness of the rim track pieces, I also didn't take into account that the c channel isn't a hard 90 degree's, it's a bend, which means you can't get them all the way flush. The result of course being nearly 1/4" overhang on each side.

Additionally, getting them seated properly was a pain. The pre-drilled holes in the flanges for the rim track were inconsistent at best, which was tough because getting them in snug required ratcheting every one in as tight as I could get it, then wailing on it with a dead blow hammer, then screwing it in.

Also by comparrison, the first 2 days we got 2 installed working 8 hour days. After the drywall lift was discovered, the second 2 days we got 28 installed, and we were working 5 hour days.

We have done a few jobs where they specked out pl 2000 premium some not,. Remember they aren' t wood joist no shrinkage no nail pops screws hold alot better than nails . 40 years of commercial metal frameing never had a piece of plywood properly screwed to a metal stud come apart. If you try to glue it make shure the studs aren't hot otherwise you glue will just be a runny mess. And don't glue over morning dew. When ever we had to glue it because the print called for it it always seemed like a waste. Why is the track [box beam]sticking past top plate ? Oh yea been glueing some HD connor gaurds on rock and plwood with locktite construction adhesive in the red tube that holds like a bastard if it floats your boat.:drink:

Valid concern. Typically though it is UV or thermo-cycling that would accelerate the degradation of 'plastic' materials. This application doesn't have significant 'exposure'. Because this construction is relatively new in residential builds there may be materials that haven't been considered that are also effective. Excuse me while I think a bit outside the box.

Of course you can just blast a bunch of screws in the flooring and call it good. I haven't been paying close enough attention to the second floor use... we may be over thinking/engineering this.

Sorry must be blind or stupid forgot the part about ordering studs full 24' .:ashamed: They could have easily been trimmed down with a circular saw and a metal cutting blade. Most supply houses will not cut studs to exact length anyway. Gotta be getting sick of the peanut gallery critasizeing you after your finished , hind sight is 20-20. No harm intended just trying to help.:drink:

Seems many of my valuable lessons have been learned on the wrong side of the curve. Part of what makes TBN so great. 🤙

On the bright side, the joists are all screwed in and not nailed. So... all you have to do is remove all the screws and joists so they can be trimmed 1/2" or so and then put back together. ;)
