I pulled my truck out of a pothole this spring using only the factory bottle jack designed for changing tires, and a ratchet tiedown. It took me 4 hours, but when I started the rear wheels weren't touching the ground.

See, looks like a million and one uses!

Oooh my son wouldn't think that is very funny, he's a Stihl man. But 30 years ago I had 044 Stihl, after a year bar oil was getting in the fuel, had to split it and replace the gasket, think I got a couple more years out of it, never had one since.
I have one stihl, it sits in the garage with a blown motor.....it's also a 044.

I still have my 044 that is now close to 25 years old and it is still going strong. Probably cut well over 120 cord of wood that I have burned with it and taken down many trees for other people and cut them up.. I just replaced the bar a couple years ago. Never had a single problem with it and it still runs like a top and keeps on going and has all the power in the world. The oiler works great too. As another poster said, we all have different experiences. I own a 200 for up in the trees and the only problem I had with that is that the carburetor had to be replaced. Other than that it has run well and I have had it for probably 15 years. I only run high octane gas in them.

My day time job is running a German subsidiary for radiotherapy dosimetry equipment. Before this company I ran a subsidiary for a Swedish company in the same field. We always went back and forth when I talked to them about the chain saws. The Swede's laughed at me when I pronounced Husquvarna as we do in the US. Of course we all say Husky but again they laugh at it. They taught me how to pronounce it correctly!

I think that they are all good saws along with Echo, Dolmar etc. In fact for the money I think that I would go with something like an Echo or a Dolmar today if I had to replace my 044. I grew up with my dad using McCulloch and Homelite and he had a lot of them and some of them were big saws and man did they weigh a lot! I still have his Mac 10-10 along with 2 Homolite XL12's. Too bad a company in the US would not take on the big named European saw manufacturers and come out with something good once again that could compete in performance, quality, service and support and price. If I had the money that would be something fun to do.

My 290 used to be an 029 bought in the mid 90's, the muffler let go and melted the oil tank about 6-7 years ago. My boss had a 290 that his brother in law ran straight gas in. He was gonna pitch it, so I took it & put my 029 engine in an almost new 290 case. I'm about to go out and cut up some red oaks with it. It is still my go to saw. But I've seen the carnage by running straight gas, a good reminder to add the oil in the can before going to fill it with gas! If I still have the piston I will take a pic.

I'm sure running a high speed engine with no lubrication cant be good!
