I also mix and match. I absolutely agree that the well maintained and cared for piece of equipment is worth purchasing over new, but I find this stuff is hard to find. It also makes selling my used equipment more difficult until the right buyer comes along.
For example, I am selling off a ZD331 commercial diesel mower. 1600 hours and perfectly maintained by the book. People looking at it scoff at the hours and basically call it a beat up machine (it also shows well). Eventually someone will see it for what it is.
