I got a late, late start and my Cabbage is just starting to head out. Plus we had a totally abnormal weather year. I am on pins and needles daily as if I will get decent heads. I cannot function without my kraut. I may need a counselor. :confused3:

Are there still head shops around? Surely they will be selling cabbage heads, right?

Didn't plant any this year, have plenty canned in the cellar. Doing salsa this year and canned tomatoes. Next year will be cabbage.

In the same boat, late start and heads are about 4" across.

4 inches is more than I have right now. My 2018 seed bombed (no sprouts) on me and I had to reorder and replant. Lost about a month. Plus I use Red Cabbage for kraut and my tried and true variety grows slower.

Oh, you are behind. They may still get some size on them. I've done the old seed route too, pretty rare to get any plants out of the old stuff.

We just laid in 3 gallons of salsa yesterday and I'm sick of shucking ears and stripping cobs. Least the horses and the cattle eat everything.

I sliced 7 pounds of red cabbage the other day. It'll be 'cooking' in a dark corner for the next few weeks. I haven't used red cabbage for kraut before and it looks a little strange to me, but it should brighten up my brat sandwiches. :)

We did last year. It will lighten up a tad but retain a deep red color. No difference in taste.

Batch #1 in the crock. It went over by 1 quart so I used one of my pickle setups for that.
