You're GD right, I'm free to write the above sentiments, because they are how I feel, and also they are an accurate statement of affairs. And the only shred of good news as of late, is that millions of Americans feel like I do, and will vote for change in November. Unless our constitutionally enshrined and basic human RIGHT to vote is trampled upon, expect one **** of a blue wave. You must be kinda lonely up in the great progressive state of Vermont. :p

Better handling of this virus would have led to far fewer deaths, and far less damage to the economy. This is just fact.

What color is the sky in your world?

Thanks RSR and all the other intelligent folks chiming in to help continue to remind our fellow citizens about the importance of following scientific guidance on this novel virus. Wearing a mask is easy and simple, just like wearing clothes in public and fastening your seatbelt in your car.

I'm sure the denialists will call this fake news and stay firmly in their confirmation bias bubble, but I actually found this article somewhat relevant:
Pandemic denial: Why some people can't accept Covid-19's realities - CNN

Persistent denial of such simple truth is basically a form of mental illness that requires calm and steady responses.

It's the Global Warming debate all over again. The denialists are not going to believe any data that is contrary to their "opinion" no matter how firm and obvious the data is.

Unless and until there is real time, real life studies (not laboratory experiments) the science is incomplete and any and all opinions and findings are subjective...

It's the mask nazis that are jumping through hoops wanting and trying to get everyone to believe that their opinions are omniscient which in fact are just subjective opinions based on results from improvised testing and experiments...the only real scientific fact on the matter is that the facts are incomplete as is the science...

IMO...It makes sense to wear a mask when in public if for no other reason than to keep the mask nazis from getting their panties in a bunch...

Just curious...how many have been in a store etc...and seen someone masked or not coughing and sneezing ?

All one has to do is look at teachers, MLB baseball players, health care workers etc., etc......they are all testing positive but they were wearing masks...The zealots would like everyone to think that if you have not been infected and you have been wearing a mask...the mask is the reason...but they don't want to know how many that have been wearing masks have gotten the virus anyway...!

You seem to have overlooked all the numerous explanations...which are true by the way...that wearing the mask protects OTHERS, not you.

It was well after social distancing mandates and advisories were in place before peeps started heeding the leadership...had they listened to and took them (advisories) seriously it may not have gotten so bad...once they (populous) realized they should have listened their only avenue was to start clamoring for masks...which is/was like closing the barn doors after the horses left...i.e., too little too late...

The general populous simply did not take the virus seriously regardless of what the powers that be were saying...the unrelated protests and demonstrations are a quintessential example...untold thousands/millions of peeps cared more about protesting and making fools of themselves than they cared about staying healthy...

Trying to blame the carelessness of the general public on a lack of leadership is nothing but a political fabrication of horse manure..

You are talking out of both sides of your mouth at the same time, bud. So you're saying that we should just blame everyone individually for being careless, and that better leadership and guidance would have had no effect or improvement on our collective behavior? What is the point of government, if not leadership during times of crisis, then?

Stop bringing up the racial justice protests, its a total non-sequitur and red herring. People took to the streets out of justified rage over clear racial disparities in community policing and our criminal justice system. People didn't go out protesting because they wanted to spread or contract a virus, they were just angry and had to show it. If you look at almost every protest, most of those people WERE wearing masks, even outdoors, and to my knowledge almost zero spread of covid-19 was traced to these events. To the contrary, it was the house parties, crowded bars, pool parties, etc, that were we EASILY traced huge numbers of covid spread. One packed night at a bar here in Lansing Michigan led to almost 100 cases, so we smartly shut 'em back down.

I'm gonna step out of this one for a while (hopefully). In the end it clearly doesn't matter what we debate here. Attitudes like yours are finally just a minority in this fine country. If not for the electoral college and gerrymandering... woof, what could have been.

You can't be serious...you have a very faulty memory, are blind or just refuse to face the facts...you also obviously don't have a very good grasp of the average American's rationale. (I think it's something in the water up there in MI)...!

Are you still trying to flatten the curve to maintain hospital treatment space? That is sooooo 15 weeks ago.....

Sorry to burst your bubble, but masks will only prolong the agony.

LoL...FYI...Denial is not a river in Africa...! I pity you poor misguided souls...!

And BTW if you do not see the relevance of the the crowds (protesters/demonstrators) ignoring the distancing etc. guidelines you're oblivious...A simple Internet search will reveal the increases of cases following the masses of people on the street...lots of viable sources unlike heavily biased CNN...LoL..!

Like I said...second guessing after the fact is of no help until the next time...hindsight is 20-20 or better...there will always be things that could have been done better but only realized after the fact...

I <shudder> actually agree with /pine on this one. :)

I don't think we can lay blame on one particular person/group/organization in this. There have been multiple failings on multiple levels, that continue to this day. The only way we get out of this without going through total catastrophe first is focus on trying to all do our part. It starts with one.

so what are you going to do if you lose in November? What then? going to Canada? :)

I don't think you were able to comprehend the points I made (zero relevance to your reply above) ...when the social distancing guidelines were first advised very few heeded them...but now since the lack of distancing caused increases of cases masks were added to the advisories and now a majority of the peeps are clamoring about anyone not wearing a mask...

Even the mask advocates say that distancing is more important than inferior masks...leadership can not be blamed for a lack of compliance by the populous...
