There are also societies that tend to care for their elders in the home, rather than farm them out. I'm sure this would have some effect on the death toll. Maybe one way or the other for that matter. If they lived in NY and the authorities sent COVID cases into the old age homes, that was bad!

So I think it's impossible to compare one country/society with another.

In Louisiana, ever since the Mafia discovered that it was easier to run nursing homes legally than their other illegal operations, it has been almost impossible to have elders cared for in their homes instead of being placed in a nursing home. Enuff said. Now I have to watch my back.

There are drastically different population densities between Sweden and other European countries, as well as travel pathways, etc.

For a more apples-to-apples comparison, look at Sweden (no lockdown) compared to their Scandinavian neighbors (lockdown) who have very similar population densities, lifestyles etc. What do we learn? (Data from today)

Deaths per 100,000

Sweden: 56.98
Norway: 4.93
Finland: 6.05
Denmark: 10.71 (Note, Denmark is on the mainland and so, again, travel is likely much more accessible - I don't know for sure, just an assumption)

So, what do we learn? Sweden has 10 times (!!!) the death rate of their neighbors. Not exactly a success.

You have made many unsupported assumptions. You know what you are implying is that the numbers from New York and New Jersey should apply to Vermont. I mean the two states are so close geographically. Ahh, but no.... I still know no one who has had the illness , let alone died of it.
