No offense to anyone...but being a native of FL and seeing first hand the plethora of tourists from northern states and seeing how lousy their driving skills and considerations when behind the wheel...makes me laugh out loud at hearing peeps from the list of states that notoriously made the "worst drivers" list that was a running joke by FL natives...complain about lousy drivers etc...!!

I have been away from this thread but thought about it in the past few days.

We have many two lane highways that are major commuter routes as people moved farther away from work to find affordable housing. It's mayhem during rush hours with few ever obeying the speed limit. And these very roads are in BIG AG areas.

In a sense, the FARMERS don't even pay any road taxes for their tractors. Sure for their other vehicles, but the other users (the commuters) sure do. There should possibly be time restrictions on these busy roads for the biggest equipment. There should be rules as to how much traffic you can hold up.

You're repeating yourself... I believe that you posted the same thing the first day of the thread, using different words. I highlighted in bold, the contradictions within your post. Granted you live in another country and probably things are different there.

Many matters are never clear cut or simple. Besides, it's what old men do. Repeat themselves!

When Government touches something, it usually wastes tax payer money and is ineffective.

ALSO, Many farmers make a terrible mess on black top, that they should pay to clean up. Truckers couldn't do that. Sorry, I just don't feel like farmers walk on water.

You do realize that somebody will now have to link that famous quote by Richard Pryor.
We all think that we are the best drivers, while everybody else in inferior. I learned long ago not to generalize, after a comment I made on another site about Massachusetts drivers was met with a link showing that they have the fewest reported accidents in the country.

Go to your closest farmer's house and visit with him about these issues. I think you might learn a few things. Especially when you talk to him about taxes. Report back how that goes.

I talk to "My" farmers all the time and those having work done at friends. Usually just listen to the latter complain. Too dry, too wet, too early, too late. I think BK is hiring, maybe that would be better.

Are they the farmers that are cluttering up your roads?

Better yet, invite "My" farmers to TBN and this thread. I think they would enjoy reading your posts.

Or even better than that. PM me their phone numbers and I'll call and visit with them about this thread.

Either way, I'll stand by for the results.

It's not such a big problem right here. Most equipment here is modest in size and can pull over and let people by. And a lot of the big stuff runs the back roads.

To understand the crux of my point I think you have to live in an area/state that sees very high rates of out of state drivers to begin to recognize the patterns...like places near national parks or resort areas...

And it's not just short term tourists...

...Being from a popular coastal beach area of FL...during the winter months we would be inundated with what are know as "snow birds"...many actually own second homes (trailers, condos etc.)...but they drive around with their home state tags and there are distinct, discernible patterns (some to the point where it's easy to guess where a culprit is from without seeing the tag)...and our friends (cough) from Canada are no better...often worse...(did I mention Quebec ? :D)

That's my World for two weeks preceding July 4th. Fireworks have been illegal to sell in Iowa. I frequent the farthest North exit off I-35 before entering Iowa. Couple gas stations, big Love's Truck Stop with a Subway. And 3 large Fireworks stores. It's an absolute mess. You can spot the Iowa vehicles without looking at plates. It's all about them. So I avoid the area during that time. I can't imagine an entire season of this.....

I wasn't disputing you... I would be one of those you are cursing.
People from other states complain that we don't know how to merge onto an interstate. Our onramp signs are "Yield", not "Merge".

In my World if you aren't going the posted speed limit when you reach the bottom end of the ramp you are wrong.

I guess I am an inconsiderate tractor operator because I do not pull over for cars. I have as much right to use the roadway as they do, so when THEY FEEL they are in a safe spot to go around me, they can. I was always told, if you pull over for every car you never get to where you are going, and if you wave them by, and they get in an accident, you can be held liable, so make the decision entirely theirs's. If they cannot wait for a safe spot to pass, it is all on them.

I have stopped a few cars when they were bout to do something really stupid, but for the most part, my little flashing orange light is enough to let cars know, I am mowing the road ditches...pass at own risk.

I mow 1/4 mile of State hiway road ditch. I stop when I see a vehicle coming so I don't risk throwing trash at them. I make four passes on this roadbank/ditch. I'll have to stop 5 or 6 times depending on time of day. No big deal. Oh,,, I wave at each vehicle also. 95% wave back. :)

I had the pleasure of getting behind a tractor today, it was a 2240 John Deere with a 3 point hay rake. He had over a dozen vehicles lined up behind him and never once looked back. He had multiple places he could have pulled over for just a minute to allow traffic to flow. Neither side of this debate has the market cornered on being inconsiderate.

I agree.
