Friend of mine retired from the loxal phone company last ywar. When he started he climbed poles often because the phone lines were all overhead. Times have changed.

My Dad was a lineman. As a kid i remember pulling off his boots that laced up to his knees. His spikes and harness hang in my house to this day. He sometimes came home with his shirt burned black with his face all red. Some of his buddies never came home those days.

Good friend is PGE lineman.... he has been all his working except for military... pushing 80 and still has his bucket truck...

When his wife passed he said his crew is family and now has grandkids working for him of people he worked with...

Great demeanor and lots to teach those coming up plus being the top of the seniority list is its own perk...

They will be hurting because of his 60 years of institutional knowledge come the day he retires...

I am probably a little biased, but I truly believe being an electrical lineman is the greatest job ever, it's something different everyday and I would say that the view would be hard to beat, I'm starting to get a little long in the tooth so my days are numbered but I really can't imagine doing anything else. Charlie.

You can be out there on the poles and in the buckets in the wind, rain, ice, cold, heat, humidity and whatever else. I'd rather sit in a comfy chair in Dispatch and tell you where to go.

Even though he is still young and green, my Grandson says the same thing. He just loves to go to work and hates to see his shift end. I used to be the same way with operating heavy equipment.
