Article says it was Kubota 3830, which I had never heard of. Sold in mid 2000s, seems like a nice machine; strong loader.

Know of too many roll overs. My ROPS has never been down.
But my old tractor never had one.

and don't forget ROPS doesn't help you much unless you are wearing your seatbelt...
BIL had a big excavator roll on him, got hurt pretty bad in cab getting bounced around like lapidary rock.
Multiple operations on shoulder.

30 years ago while responding as a volunteer fireman I watched a 16 year old die
in his father's arms after an old Farmall rolled on him on a hill while mowing, steering wheel
crushed his chest. Boy did that image stick with me, still does...

Images like that do stay with you a long time. Some the reasons I wear my seat belt and watch my driving. Saw a 14 year old fall from about 20 feet. Helping his dad paint. He touched a power line with an extension on the roller. Died before he hit the ground.

:thumbsup::thumbsup: You got that right! Live long and enjoy your friends and family. Use your ^%@! seat belt.

All speculation without knowing the details. I NEVER wear a seat belt unless in difficult situations. Which I avoid anyway. I stand up and get on and off a piece of equipment way too often.

One of the most gut wrenching accidents I ever investigated was a padded drum soil compactor incident. Operator was standing up for some reason and hit a rock throwing him forward in front of the padded drum. Padded drum had pads made from cast steel welded to the steel cylinder drum and are used for compacting clay. Another operator who saw the accident ran over to the person. Unbelievably he was still alive and was heard to say, “Help me!”, before expiring. I’ve investigated a lot of fatal accidents but this was the worst. We always get sued over accidents - in this case family suing because of no seat switch but required for a machine that large.

That is one of the earlier "Grand L's" I was interested in a 3840, but my Kioti was much cheaper and had most of the same features except for all of the HST+ features.

Once and awhile I will use the saying, "I would rather be knuckled" which is hyperbole to say the leas. Now, most people think it means "I would rather get hit in the face with a fist", but it is actually a railroad term...

"To get knuckled" means a Conductor or Brakeman gets caught between the knuckles of train cars. Since it catches you at mid-level, the person lives because major organs are okay, but the trauma below is too great. Still the weight of the cars pressing on each other act as a tourniquet squeezing off all blood flow.

So they bring in the family, say their last good-byes, but eventually...yeah they have to pull the cars apart, and when that happens, it is instant death.
