Disc Opinions

Need a disc for planting small experimental food plots for my sheep and deer. Neighbor wants $300 for this. Looks to be in good shape. I think it's a 7'. I know weight is the key to a nice disc, hence the segmented wheels because it's light. Was just thinking it would still be handy for breaking up a couple few inches of the ground. Thanks in advance for any opinions/advice!

It's adjustable and from the looks of the disc blades it has been used very little , in this part of the country it would be considered a great deal , you may have to make several passes in unbroken ground but it will do what you want. I have a Bush Hog brand that is almost a twin to that and I have done everything with it from making beds to plant watermelons on to small deer plots, and while I have larger disc's offset and leveling, I would never get rid of my little harrow.

In my part of the country, that's a steal. I paid $450 for a Ford 202 disk and the guy who sold it to me had other people beating down his door to buy it out from underneath me while I drove my trailer back to pick it up. That disk should more than do the job.

I would jump on that. Nice that it is 3ph and you can easily position the thing.

I paid much more for a similar disc. Yours looks almost new. Depending on soil type and condition, you may need to add some weight to help with penetration. I use two poly 55 gallon drums with various amounts of water added to provide needed weight to penetrate my Alabama red clay soil. A poly 55 gallon drum filled with water weighs about 460 lbs. Two barrels (one per side to balance) partially filled will give you a nice bite. A couple of welded brackets will provide a cradle for the barrels. Speed will also determine tilling effectiveness. Good lick.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Definitely very similar to the Bushhog brand. Love the blue color since it matches my tractor. Lol! I'll try and post up a good video of me using it once I get the bearings greased up. Everything seems to spin nicely though.

I don't know about now but those discs used to be a dime a dozen in SC farm country. I have one that I've hardly ever used. Not in quite the shape of that one but it works.

I would buy that even if I had nothing to pull it! I know a bargain when I see one. Stuff like that goes only two ways these days. Good quality and more expensive (by the day it seems) or poorer/lighter quality.

You made a good purchase for $300 bucks, now all you need to do is weld you a couple of eye nuts on the back to attach you a nice heavy drag like a piece of railroad iron to smooth the ground behind you on your last pass.

Not sure if any holes are hidden under the plates or not, but cased upon what can be seen, both the front and rear are set to a center position. You have at least 1 more and 1 less aggressive setting on both gangs.

There are many ways to increase weight of the disk, all depending upon how much you wish to add and your fab skills. Some have been suggested.
Discing from different directions (90 and 45 degrees) will help to break up soil also.
