Interesting. Some cops go overboard, but why people resist what they are told to do by police is beyond me. We have to have police and we have to obey them to keep law and order. At the same time, police need to be able to de-escalate situations and when there are police that cannot do that, they need to find another line of business. That said, police also have to have the ability to use force when necessary.

The kid could see that there was some sort of line forming for some kind of stop/check station. Why didn't he just get in the line and go thru the stop. The kid may be just a farm boy but he still has a lot to learn.

I, also, have very mixed feelings about this.

Must have been a slow day in the country and the cops said "hey there's no indigenous persons to abuse...lets beat on some dumb farm kids instead". Like the saying goes, a shoe fetishist gets a job at the shoe store. What kind of people want jobs where they get to bully people around and abuse people with impunity? At least in Canada cops are well paid with excellent pensions.

I posted this story a while ago.

I do have mixed feelings about this. And I am certain I don't know all the details.

Charges DROPPED against Alberta teen farmer after police brutality video goes viral - YouTube

We need POLICE. We don't need this! And in a sense, we don't need some totally clueles kid driving a tractor on public roadways.

Whats with your obsession with farmers driving tractors on roads?
Clueless??? Seriously? :confused3: That kids an intelligent, hard worker trying to make a living. He obviously roads tractors with experience and reason.
In another thread you want farmers to obtain permits to drive from field to field :confused2:
Read the comments below the video. Literally NOBODY supports the cops in this instance of blatant police brutality.
These Canadian cops were idiots and clearly jealous of that young mans farming ability. The cops think they own the roads and they dont If you dont know where you stand, then you stand with police brutality. They were judge, jury and executioner. Thats a breathtaking abuse of power. And the Alberta Sheriffs office should apologize and pay this young man a justified settlement. The cops that were violent should be fired and prosecuted. If someone did that to my son, Id sue them into oblivion.
Looks like a totalitarian state up there in Alberta.

Agree 100%. They dont know how to handle the very situations they are expected to be trained to encounter. My son and I road tractors in tandem from field to field. Cops could care less around here. Maybe our cops arent ex semi-pro ice hockey brawlers like those Alberta cops?
Funny how all the Hollywood types around here want to move to Canada to escape police brutality.
Grass aint always greener on the other side, huh?

I think the root cause of the problem is that once you stick a group of people together you develop a cronyism culture. The only way to break up the brotherhood culture is to fire everyone every 5 years and put all new people in. 1st year is the honeymoon, year 2-4 your get performance, year 5 the abuses start. Fire them all and start again. The problem is that isn't a cost effective way to run a policing organization.

Cops tend to have to deal, with dirt bags and wack jobs all the time. After a while they expect EVERYONE they deal with is a wacko nut job and the cops are always ready and looking for a fight. It's survival instinct. The big BUT is the police force tends to attract people who get off on being in power and controlling other people like puppets. Sorry but you need to call a spade a spade.

I think this is the same reason why the whole democracy and political system is broken. The people attracted to the political profession are the crooks, narcissists and sleazy used car salespersons who are good at lying, being smarmy and self serving.

I think elections should be replaced with a lottery system similar to jury duty. When your name is drawn from the hat then you HAVE to do the job, 5 year term, and you get paid $300K a year tax free. The only stipulations should be
1. You are a citizen over the age of majority
2. You must NOT have a criminal record
3. You must NEVER have been personally bankrupt or responsible for a business that has gone bankrupt
4. You have a minimum IQ - you gotta be semi competent
5. Once in office you can never do it again

I think these first 4 rules would probably eliminate half of the current "politicians". Think of all the money being wasted on advertising and running stupid popularity contest elections...put that money towards infrastructure/education/healthcare. Eliminates cronyism. The average Joe couldn't do any worse than the current elected officials...probably better because they have to be there, not because they desperately want to. No need to worry about political affiliations, parties, lobbyists etc. Stagger the elections that every year you replace 20% of the people put in power.

Agreed. Well stated.
