The first camera departed this spring. Yes, I run them all year for the last five years. I had thought it was someone searching for sheds (that I never find) and heard the camera fire. They left the other camera that was in plain sight. I assumed it was because they wanted to assure I wouldn't identify them. I replaced it.

Today I found both of my cameras missing. The odd thing was they were both off. So it was flat up theft 1/2 mile from ANY road so it must be a neighbor. Likely a new one that lives across the road.

Guess how I feel about this. I have no options. My ranch is one hour away from my home near my job. I can't secure it and surely can't catch someone tresspassing on my place if I'm not there.

At least I haven't had Antifa burn it all down.

They make security boxes, which will make it more difficult for a thief. Of course if they want it they are going to get it, but you can at least make them work for it.

The best thing to do is to have 2 cameras. One does not even have to work because it is just the bait camera. Find a really good hiding spot to put your good camera and aim it at your bait camera that is in a spot easy to see.

I looked into this issue a while ago. One recommendation was a good one. Place the camera much higher than someone can reach. A persons field of view commonly scans at eye level, or below. So if it is 12' up a tree that is good. My cameras require me to use a ladder to reach them.

The need for a flinging dog crap Booby-trap seems appropriate for these shenanigans.

A claymore mine disguised as a game camera would be the ticket.

If the area has cellular service, then it seems like a cellular game cam would help.

I also like the idea of putting them up higher. That would help ensure that the picture(s) would be uploaded before the camera is stolen.

On the down side, this approach would be an on-going monthly expense.

Lost one last year(brand new),this year they took the SD card from a camera in the same general area;we did find a pot grow close by.
The grow looked pretty poor this summer;should have sprayed with Round-Up.This is on private property,1/2 mile from the road.
Cell camera well hidden is the way to go.
