I intended to ask you if that wind storm hit you but forgot to. That was very bad. I saw pictures of corn fields flattened.

My wife and a friend went to the Groto last Friday. She said there were a lot of corn fields baled into large round bales. Is that corn that was flattened?

Sorry to hear about your Walnut trees....

We are right in the middle of a 120 mph swath of wind that was about 6 miles wide and 80 miles long and lasting 30 minutes. Most of the corn I see is getting chopped with a disk. Some are trying to harvest it and using a paddlewheel on the head but it is slow going and the head points are taking a beating. Cedar Rapids took the big hit with 140 mph winds.

We had some small oaks and our lilac bushes turn their leaves black early and the leaves fell off. The lilac then re-sprouted a small amount of leaves and blooms. Very strange it did this about sept 14th. Would a airborne spray from a crop duster plane do this?

Foliage is almost totally gone by here, poplars, oaks, etc. still have leaves but their colors are quite muted. Maples mostly bare, the heavy rain we had last week didn't help. This was a terrible year for apples, our trees had maybe 25% of what they usually have.

Was a weird summer...everything seemed to be early from the foliage to most of the garden.
I hope we don't have bitter cold heavy snow season.

Strange occurance indeed. Glad your damage didn't include your buildings.

It did. We got by with only $4500 worth od damages. We got off cheap. From my front yard I can see 4 barns and machine sheds blown down, a 2 story house that lost it's entire roof and half of the second floor. I doubt there is a property in this area that didn't get damaged whether it is buildings or plants.

Bummer. Very bad deal. Much worse than a tornado.

I hauled out the last of the dead ash trees to my neighbor last night, he loves it for burning.

Most of it has become somewhat punky but two logs I hauled out was still hard n dense

I don't mind the snow. Last few winters snowfall has been below normal here in the north country...not good when much of the region's economy in the winter depends on snowmobilers and skiers. I'm one of the groomer operators for our local club and enjoy getting out in it. Enjoy plowing too.
Bitter stays-below-zero-for-weeks-at-a-time cold I can live without...

We had big fuzzy caterpillars last year and we didn't get the bitter cold they were predicting. We are way over due for a blizzard to pound us. About 5 foot drifts would be ok to start with.
