Need a good way to post No Trespassing signs

It is time to post No Trespassing signs on the perimeter of my property. This is due to trespassers in general, plus unruly tree crews who work for the local electric utility. I learned they are trained to behave differently if working near a property posted with such signs.

I would like to have a quantity of custom produced signs made by a local sign company. The signs would have our property name, and "No Trespassing". Should I include any other wording on the signs?

How much spacing should there be between each sign when the property borders a road? How many feet apart?

Finally, do you have any suggestions on how to mount them? I could affix them to trees, but spacing would not be very uniform. Are there good systems to affix a sign to a T-post? Or some other method?

Check your state laws, but here in Texas all we need to do is use purple paint which means "No Trespassing". Spacing is dependent on the terrain. Fields are much farther apart than woodlands.

I've had the same thoughts. People tend to destroy them around here and I was going to have several plasma cut out of steel and screw then onto something solid with tamper-proof fasteners. Yeah, it would only deter the good vandals...

One thought about custom signs is putting a text number on them so people with questions about the property could contact you without coming up to the house. In my case, it wouldn't happen often but it might have saved several interruptions. People with what they consider a legit reason to trespass usually do.

I mounted some store bought plastic signs on 1/2 painted plywood and used u-bolts to attach them to t-posts.

Yes, it varies by state. Review the posting requirements for your own state.

It sounds like you're ready to go overboard. "How many feet apart?" Perhaps every fence post? That way, someone can't claim they didn't see it.

My "purple stripes" were put up on one side partially adjoining a mobile home park. I put them facing the three roadways which were perpendicular to my property line. The only reason I did that was I found a lot of trash along the line the first time I mowed. By trash, I mean hard trash. Like cinder block, wood, car parts, furniture and old toys. I also told the owner of the park I was going to put a hog pen along that line if the trash continues. I haven't had any more problems.

We have the purple stripes provision here, too. But I've found in talking with many people that they've never heard of it...mostly hunters know about it...so I think signs are also necessary, if you want to keep folks away. I posted a family farm that way, using both. I've never posted my own property, but did catch a poacher last year, so put up two signs on the back property corner where he came in...I took a lightweight short step ladder to get up above reach to tack the signs into the trees.

Your state probably has regulations about how you must place your signs, and how far apart. For instance, here, the purple stripe must be 3 feet above ground (or high water level in swamps) but no higher than 6 feet...so people have a fair chance to see them. You might want to put up a well hidden trail cam, too, if you are having real problems. Good luck.

I mounted mine on T posts and some still got ripped off. I despise trespassers and vandals even more!!!

My worst time is mushroom season. I have a 200 yard range that gets a bit more use during that time of the year. I was planning on adding "Shooting Range" to my signs but decided actual shooting is far more effective.

"Shooting Range" made me laugh. I recall someone from the park was shooting and it sounded like they were using my property as a backstop. I happened to be working out in the back clearing the path to my own range in the corner of my land. (Full backstop and clear downrange) The shooting seemed loud and close. I went back to the house and got my 30-30. It's the loudest weapon I have. I went back to where I was clearing shrubs and popped-off about five rounds into the ground in succession. The shooting from the other side stopped. :laughing:

My house sits back in the "woods" about a 1/4 mile from the front road. Except for the occasional cut grass and a small well house in front, passers-by wouldn't know anyone lives here. Well, maybe the dirt driveway would be a hint too.
