Backhoe fell over and died.

Ran at PTO speed for about 5 minutes and the hoses got good and warm. I'll post some pix of the hookup.

 Good. At least you know you have flow there. One less thing to worry about.

Good luck with the rest of the situation. I have nothing else to offer but encouragement.

There is absolutely no reason you have to pick up the ENTIRE hoe at one time,,
Use your loader to lift/pivot the boom, get it aiming straight out.

Then if necessary, use the loader to pick up each corner of the frame, until the hoe is blocked into a position that it can be connected.

I would bet 6 guys could set that hoe upright by hand, surely that loader is as strong as 6 guys,,,?

1,400 pounds is nothing,, considering that you do not need to lift the entire weight at one time. try it, you will have it set up in a half hour.

Actually, until the tractor started tipping, this is exactly what I was in the process of doing, (notice the cinder blocks and timbers).
I was getting ready to attach a come-along to a tree, and had connected the two ends of the hydraulic hoses together to allow flow from one side of the piston to the other (bungee corded lever). This was when I thought of making 'extension hoses' and let the power of the tractor's hydraulic system do the work.

This doesn't work because the volume of the rod changes the displacement of the cylinder.

I have not read the whole thread but saw the pictures.

If it were me, I would start lifting it to the correct position with a Hi-Lift or two on the side. As it lifts put cribbing under it until you get it to a height that starts reaching the tipping point where you can get it up right with the bucket from the side. You could also tie off some straps so it does not go over the other way. Once it is upright it should be much easier.

QUESTION I haven't seen answered. What happens if the boom swings, extending the cylinder and there is no fluid behind it? Could that create a vacuum that is not easily correctable? 2nd point: Is it possible that the boom swing cylinder has over-travelled and damaged the cylinder seals? My backhoe has bumper stops that cushion/stop over-travel. This boom looks completely over to 90 degrees. Is it possible that the piston has gone beyond/behind the pressure port?

I have a 485 backhoe that I mount on a 5055E tractor. I've also experienced no operation of the backhoe controls when the hydraulics on the tractor are running and work perfectly. AND the hoses between the backhoe and tractor were connected. One of the most frustrating things I've ever experienced. You probably have the 7241 style quick connect fittings, if so it is possible for them to appear to be connected but are not. Be sure the male end is fully inserted in the female end. Also, check that the check valve in the coupler (the center ball or pin) moves when you press on it, if it doesn't you'll never get the connector to seat fully. I'm assuming the valve levers on the backhoe move freely.

Note: there are only 2 hoses on the 485, one is the supplied pressure line and the other is the return to tank. There is no power beyond hose. It also looks like the cylinder rods are in good shape from the angles the pictures were taken from. If there is damage to the rods, it means that it will leak oil and tear up the seals, but should still move.

You might consider a little different approach to standing up the backhoe. Take a chain from the outside edge of your tractor bucket to the end of the stabilizer arm. Do that on both sides and keep the chains equal in length. Don't try to pickup the control section but take weight and back up slowly. As you move the control section back you may have to operate the backhoe swing controls and boom controls to relieve hydraulic pressure holding the boom in place.

The backhoe bucket should act as an anchor. As you move the control section away from the backhoe bucket, the boom should swing around straight inline with the operators section. Once the boom is straight and upright you can block up the operators section so you can hook up the backhoe hydraulic hoses to the tractor. Hooking up the backhoe hydraulic lines directly to the tractor may help solve the hydraulic issue, or it may not, but at least the backhoe will be upright.

Have you triple checked that you have the power beyond hose going to the "p" port on you backhoe valve? Like you say it's a pretty simple arrangement on the backhoe, pump (in this case power beyond from the FEL valve) and return to reservoir.

With 1/4" lines in series with your main pump, I would expect your relief valve to start opening around half or 2/3 throttle and heating up the oil quickly. But you should still be getting movement on the backhoe functions, especially the outrigger that is flapping in the breeze.
