HD Shop Vacs, Anyone know much about them?

I use a fine filter bag for wet/dry vacs along with a fine filter cartridge. This works well for dust as the bag will catch the dust and the filter does not become clog. Just swap the bag once full and keep on moving.

We use this setup for drywall dust with great success. It saves the filter cartridge and performance is much better.

I have never tried pantyhose but I would think a lot of dust would make it through. Clogging the main cartridge filter.

I would use the same fine filters, but I suggested the pantyhose to collect the static cling foam bits to keep them under control. I made the mistake of sucking up styrofoam bits once. Never again. I thought I was doing good until I opened the canister to empty it. Yikes, what a mess!

Yeah. I found nothing renders a vac more useless quicker than drywall dust!

Shame about Shop Vac. The real "Shop Vac" will be no more. I guess they don't have a very specialized product. That's a problem in a global economy.

I have a few 4X8 sheets of 1.5" styrofoam, that I stored high up in the barn for "safe keeping" now in bits!

Just bite the bullet and hire a vac truck, they'll be done in a half hour.

Years ago at work the supervisor bought some Dayton branded 6(?) gallon shop vacs from Grainger. They had a disposable wrap around filter sorta like the shape of a neck pillow. They worked great....until Operations department got into our cage when it was left unlocked and destroyed them one by one trying to clean up oil spill and what not.

I was looking at a diesel powered self propelled little truck they use in cities and trucks. But I still don't know about the styrofoam matter. No good if the styrofoam is all stuck against a filter and not sitting in a bag inside a bin.

you could try a soot vacuum, with filtering that fine, there's no way Styrofoam could affect it!.. soot is MUCH finer than even dust..

How is the soot clean out?

The plant would hire a vac truck to clean out problem areas. If you had any section of hose that was plastic without the metal spiral wire you better run a ground. WE had some operators try and improvise getting belted with static electricity.

First better make sure foam ain't soy based. Mice love dat snack food.

Second look up Thein Seperator. Build 1 and connect to shop vac or better industrial straight blade blower.

You gotta go cheap, hunt up a old Kirby and hook it into de suck line bout half way to de collector. Nice thing bout Kirby, replacement parts are available from Power Flite.

You go messin wid kooon crap you want positive incoming air and good respirator. Not bad idea to have safety man watchin yer back, koons can get very nasty.
