Tractor Supply - how does it work?? (rant)

You will do better at your local farmers co-op called WILCO. We have one up here and they run circles around the two TSC stores in the area. Bulk bolts are 30% cheaper and larger selection. Way over priced on everything. WILCO also gives a 10% military discount which TSC refuses to match. Big deal for me.

Ron
TSC in both Nebraska and Montana gives me my military discount, I never even mention it, they ask me, as does HD in montana.

I hear a lot about TSC until one was finally put in about 30 minutes away. Went there and wasn’t impressed with the store. My “TSC” close by is North 40 which stocks at least 20x what TSC and they always have quality goods. I could bring the missus so she can shop for ranch style clothing (LOTS of shoes & jeans) while I meander over to look at guns, ammo, fishing, hardware, ranch equipment, tractor parts & implements, feed, Vet supplies, camping gear, gardening, pesticides, seeds, tools, welding gear, plumbing, hunting gear, and stuff to process game.

Oh and lil’ toys for tikes.

Whatever you do, NEVER apply for and get a TSC Credit Card. Their interest rate on an unpaid balance is almost 26%, leagal loan sharking.

Your TSC has guns? I've never seen any guns or ammo at any TSC around here.

Did you ever look at the HD or Lowes cards? .....29%.... but they do offer interest free 6, 12, or 18 months..... still , legal robbery!

Actually, no. I have one card (Kroger Mastercard) and it gives me points for groceries and points for gas discount and the unpaid balance rate is substantially lower... 18%. I don't carry a balance as a rule anyway.

My philosophy is why have a bunch of plastic when one card will do.

Never seen a firearm in any TSC either. Rural King has firearms, maybe you have them mixed up.

Our local TSCs are pretty terrible. The hydraulic parts and tools are all kept locked up. Nothing says friendly store like being treated like a criminal.

Fall is lawn seeding time in NorCal. I have a big lawn and it needed seed and fertilizer. Last year at when I did this the local TSCs had two aisles of seed and fertilizer. This year one had just a few sad bags of the wrong kind of seed and no fertilizer. The other had the seed I wanted and half a pallet of starter fertilizer, stuffed into 1/4 of an aisle. It looked like both stores were getting out of the seed and fertilizer business and selling more "seasonal items".

TSC could be so much better. I'm disappointed every time I go into one. Maybe the ones in the central valley where there's a lot of ag would be better but that's a long drive.

There's a local feed store that has the locally milled chicken feed my wife likes for her chickens and at better prices than TSC.

I used to go to Tractor Supply until they opened a Rural King across the street... haven't been to TS since.

Understandable. I buy RK online. If they had a store here, they would put TSC out of business.

No. I said that my “TSC” is North 40, which is supposedly is equivalent to TSC but isn’t. “North 40” is the name of the store.

"why have a bunch of plastic when one card will do"

Simple answer: To get the most points (cash return).
I have one card that gives 2% cash back on everything.
Then: I have another card that gives 5% back on groceries/gas/and drugs ... no rotating eligibility.

Probably why credit card debt is out of control in this country as well. Hopscotching from one card to another still leaves you with the debt to pay and the credit card companies raking in the finance charges.

I like the high credit score I have. My credit score hovers around 820 all the time.

I call TSC 'Tough ****te Charlies' where most everything is scratched, dented or broken and the 'associates' driving habits on the company forklifts leave something to be desired. Far as pet food is concerned, we get ours from Chewy delivered to the farm, free shipping and very competitive pricing. They do have the best price on bird food and wood pellets, I get my pellets for the biomass stove there but I watch carefully was the hi-lo driver loads them in my truck. Have a bad habit of jamming the forks through the bottom bags on the pallets. Must have a depth perception issue......:D

I don't have a problem with TSC. I wouldn't really call them a farm store, but this isn't farm country either...other than a few remaining dairy farms, most agriculture here is forestry related.
4 aisles worth of dog food, and other dog-related stuff seems a bit excessive but if that stuff didn't sell they wouldn't carry it. The clothes seem OK, I like their Blue Mountain jeans. Quality of merchandise is comparable to other box stores, I don't see scratched/dented/beat up stuff on the shelves, maybe it's just your store. Prices seem competitive.

There's a store called Runnings in Claremont that's like a TS on steroids...if we're in the area we'll stop in, but their prices are high and it's a 4 hour round trip so it's not worth a special trip.
Agway used to be more of a farm/garden store, but most of them have closed, and the one remaining one I know of seems to be as much if not more pet-oriented than TS.

We have 2 Tractor Supply stores here in Tyler. The original store in Tyler is pretty bad. I haven't been in there in years. The newer store is on the other side of town, and much nicer. If I need something from TSC, I go to the new store.

We also have an Atwoods, and it's twice as big with better prices. The only reason to go to Tractor Supply is if it's something that they are the only place that sells it. I'm at Atwoods once a week. I've been to Tractor Supply 3 times this year.

So......I use 3 different cards, and I have paid them each off monthly for years,.....and that is somehow NOT a good thing?
I LOVE my cards!
They make me $1.200+ FREE cash each year!
My credit card debt IS "out of control"?
Yah think?
For me, there has NEVER been any credit card debt "out" anywhere, to "control".

My credit score "hovers around 820 all the time" also!
I LOVE FREE MONEY !!!!

I agree TCS leaves a bit to be desired, but they do come through in the clutch sometimes. Lost the little quick coupler button rod thing on my PTO shaft where it attaches to the tractor. They had the part I needed and the lady let me go in the back room to use their work bench to see if it fit and was the right one. They definitely have lots of things your normal hardware store or feed and seed do not have and for that I appreciate them. I wish we had a Rural King closer. Nearest one is an hour away.

I buy horse feed, dog food and cat food there along with other hardware. Never thought about buying those items from Amazon.

We have been buying pet supplies and food from Amazon for years.
