Can I start my engine with no hydraulic fluid? Or would that cause damage, just want to make sure everything is good and I would hate to have to drain it again.

I, personally, would not unless it was maybe just a very quick test to be sure the engine fired and then off right away. I sure would not run more than a couple seconds. You have a hydraulic pump and a powershift pump that won't like to be ran dry and are both very expensive to replace.

Before refilling the tractor with Hydraulic fluid that is costly, you can fill it about 3/4 way with diesel and run the tractor. This way, the diesel acts both as a lube and as a cleaner. After about 10 or less mins, you can drain the diesel and refill later with the right fluid.

I take the old diesel and mix it as bar chain oil for the chainsaw. You can even filter the diesel with one of those Mr. Coffee screen sieves and then reuse the diesel too.

I would also caution like Aaron mentioned. Just don't do it.

I have seen very mixed thoughts on running diesel fluid. I this really safe?

I've done this 2X with my YM2610. No issues. Most if not all the refurb dealers also do this. Ideally, On-Road Diesel with LOW SULFUR works the best. Not K1 Kerosene or Off-Road dyed diesel either.

The clean the reusable hydraulic filter, diesel and a med-toothbrush is used in a 5-gallon bucket.

Others can chime in here too.

Aaron said it all well! 2 pumps on that 2210 that you really do not want to run dry. For a short short period just a few minutes, you might be ok with a cheap fluid as a flush, but even then it would be iffy! Compared to the cost of the 2 pumps, 5 gals of fluid even if it is deposed of is cheap!

Why are you wanting to crank it without fluid? I'm kinda slow.....

Injector pumps run thousands and thousands of hours without oil. Guess what THEY use for lube. ;)

I rebuilt just the bottom end due to the crank breaking while idling in the driveway, not exactly sure why that happened, just want to make sure there are no other anomalies if I can.

Gotcha. And you have to drain the hydraulics to re-open the engine?
