New Stihl MS 500i

Husqvarna calls their intake system "air injection". It centrifuges some of the debris out of the air before it goes to the air box where the filter is.
It's an old idea. Many tractors have had it since the '40s or earlier.

So it's just air pathways to make it a "cyclonic" injection.

I thought all stihls had this by the way of the recoil cover.

Look at husky air injection. Heck even echo has air injection on their new 7310. Only a couple stihls have been updated to the system to separate the crap out. 500 dont have it.

Stihl 462 even. Pre-Separation Air Filtration System
This time-saving technology boosts the efficiency of the engineç—´ filter system, doubling the time between air filter cleanings. Air drawn into the engine is first separated via centrifugal force, ejecting the heavier dirt particles before being routed to the air filter. This pre-separation means less dirt to be captured by the air filter, resulting in less frequent cleaning and maintenance.

Think 441 was first to use it after husky patents ran out.

This is a really great video of a STHIL 500i being used, it really makes me think it can do justabout anything i would need done that is if i had anything to do with a chainsaw.

I just noticed something that i really don't like, in watching another STHIL 500i video this guy after running his new 500i opened up the upper housing where the filter is, and just pulled it off, it is not held on by and positive force like being screwed or held tight with a nut or wingnut just being held by a small non metal "self gripping" peg.

This item i would not even execpt in a home owner type STHIL chainsaw, and surely not on STHIL's Professional type chainsaws.

I not trying to nit pick the 500i from what i have seen, it's a workhorse of a chainsaw just an item i just don't like in it's Design.

The cover has a quick nut that locks it together. My 661 has the same setup and it seals just fine

I noticed in his video when he pulled the filter off there was fine wood dust on the filters rubber sealing, this tells me the filter was not really tight and was not truly sealing. So STHIL using the cover locking knob for both locking the covers down and sealing and locking the filter is not a good Engineering Design.
