On insurance claims----
Had a major water damage claim in the making and asked about not having receipts to which the adjuster replied that they would remit 1/2 of retail of similar model.
(not top end models , like perhaps 21" TV @ Wallmart prices)
Great, while that TV is scrap and I have 2 spares I'll get 3 x 1/2 and be ahead with a new TV.
He settled for one El Cheepo new TV @100%
When It came to washer and drier (both showing age with some rust etc) I simply said "how about $150 for both", scratching his head he asked why only that?
My reply was they still work but any failures will probably be water damaged switches or timers so $150 will keep them going just fine.
He laughed, agreed and never questioned any of my claims.
Total claim ranged $30K and I had check in hand 2 weeks after submitting 3-4 pics (by Email) of some repairs.
I think the moral is to not try to screw the insurance with wild claims.
While I shuddered anticipating wild increases, They merely removed the 5% 'no claim' discount for 3 years.
PS, still with them for everything I own.
(Loyalty works both ways!)
Back to tools,
My wife is also a book keeper type so have lots of receipts.
I also have an itemized list of tools with cost and retail noted as I have a lot of yard/garage sale tools in my shop.
Love a bargain !.
