I don't think I can agree with the silt theory. I think what you'll eventually have is a plugged pipe. Especially in a condition like Jeremy's where his lake is surrounded by trees which will dump truck loads of leaves in the lake each Fall. They sink and settle on the bottom.

Inlet location will be about 3 ft from the bottom.

This project continues to linger on but is still alive..
Back side of the dam is finished. The pond is pretty much finished as well. Hoping to install the pipe on the water side of the dam this week and still have a lot of dirt to move to the water side of the dam. Right now the slope is too steep and would worry about erosion if left as is.

I still think this is an awesome project. I wish I had the real estate for a pond like this... but then again, I'm kind of glad I don't. Not sure I would ever git er done. Keep it going! :D

Lots of good 'habitat' there for the fishes!

I have some large limestone that I'll place in a couple of spots for some additional habitat. Also need to pick a few areas and make some cuts into the hillside for some shallow areas for plant growth. Banks are so steep that there will be little at the moment relative to surface area.

That's going to be a really nice looking pond. I piled my stumps up into a couple different areas to give the fingerlings the most protection possible. It's also a good area to fish because the bass like to hang out around those piles.

Great Idea! That's going to be a good fishing lake!

I would be inclined to tie a little buoy on the stumps so I would avoid snagging my lures. :D
