Neat pictures.
I work a farm with a railroad and a siding. I’m there about 1/2 the year.
I really like to take a break here and there and just imagine the old days when the freight trains ran through the farm. Really a peaceful, relaxing feeling. Takes the hyperpartisan, Covid stressed feelings away for a few moments.
There were several moments of terror that were railroad related on this farm.
1. A steam train went by in the late 1800’s and sparks from the train got on the barn roof and it burned to the ground. The railroad rebuilt the barn
2. A train with coal cars derailed and flipped. The owner of the farm was allowed to take all the coal he wanted off the ground. He ended up with enough to heat their home for a long time.
3. World famous artist NC Wyeth and his grandson were killed when he crossed the tracks on the road in front of the farm and was struck by the train.
