The train was known as the Bent Zigzag & Crooked. Also Old Rusty & Woobly. IMG_7765.JPG

Maybe they fixed everything and took the picture afterwards for recovery purposes.

A very good theory. Until you look closely and see vegetation geowing between the tracks.

Still possible if they left it laying for a year.

Those trains were very short from the pics I’ve seen. Looks like only 3 cars on the train. 1924_ORW_wreck2.jpeg

Neat pictures.
I work a farm with a railroad and a siding. I’m there about 1/2 the year.
I really like to take a break here and there and just imagine the old days when the freight trains ran through the farm. Really a peaceful, relaxing feeling. Takes the hyperpartisan, Covid stressed feelings away for a few moments.

There were several moments of terror that were railroad related on this farm.
1. A steam train went by in the late 1800’s and sparks from the train got on the barn roof and it burned to the ground. The railroad rebuilt the barn
2. A train with coal cars derailed and flipped. The owner of the farm was allowed to take all the coal he wanted off the ground. He ended up with enough to heat their home for a long time.
3. World famous artist NC Wyeth and his grandson were killed when he crossed the tracks on the road in front of the farm and was struck by the train.

Yep. So I'm back to my first guess. They all wobbled the same direction at the same time and simply fell over. Going on that theory. Would the Engineer have a few moments to realize he's headed toward disaster? I'm sure they had a "feel" for such things. Just imagine the conversation in the engine room just before it fell over. What could you do to disrupt it? Speed up or slow down? It's definitely a frequency thing.

Wow. What great stories.

And what would he be feeling in those last few seconds? Calm and rational but mind racing for a solution? Panic? Fear? Resignation? Thoughts of loved ones?
