Portable Diesel Generator Recommendations?

/ Portable Diesel Generator Recommendations? #51
I have a lot of diesels around here, and I've NEVER seem even one of them wet stack, even when run lightly loaded for many hours on end. The only wet stacking I've ever seen was on OLD diesels, never once on anything newer...

I'll bet the wet stacking "myth" will carry on just like the "diesels don't start in the cold" myth!!

And enforced by Government Regulators requiring annual load bank for licensing

might want to talk the MEP guys, almost every single unit they get in has the "myth" wet stack. they show pictures of them blowing out all the carbon a lot on steel soldiers.
I believe running the generator at a high load just makes the valves and pistons much hotter, so the carbon gets blown out..

I love dese threads. Mine's bigger den yers is. I need more power cause I not smart enough ta capture de waste heat off de engine. Engine wastes off more fuel energy as heat den it makes into electric powr most times.
Good God, what so hard about lookin at de electric bill and seeing how many KWH you use. Power company knows dat number for sure and prints it on bill every month.

I have a small 6 HP 3000 Watt Yanmar pull start diesel. Best starting engine I have, hands down, always 1 pull. I run it during long power outages to keep the freezers and fridge, etc. going. If I need more than that I have a 7500 watt Honda powered setup. Sound level is about the same. Not what the OP is looking for, but works well for my 3000 sq ft house with wood stove as heat. Power never goes out in summer up here.

Do you have 240 with the diesel Yannar?

And, how old are they??

The units or guys? :)

Age doesn't matter. It seems any MEP unit that is lightly run may experience wet stacking. From what I've read a long run gradually increasing load will burn it out and cure the problem.

Sure it matters, I stated that I have never seen a "newer" diesel wet stack, and I haven't...

I have quite a few newer diesels here, NONE of them have ever wet stacked on me, even when run for hours on end at low RPM's, with a light load.

Last diesel I owned that wet stacked, was an -------> old D-7 CAT.

I keep reading on this sight, guys telling newbs, about how you have to keep your tractor/diesel under load or it will wet stack, like when running a lightly loaded PTO generator. I don't believe it, and it's another thing, one newb reads and takes as gospel and repeats it.

IF, it's true, why doesn't it happen to any of mine??? I have 2, 3, 4 and 6 cylinder diesels, you would think at least one of them would have that problem under a light load, wouldn't you?

My Yanmar 3.7 is 120/240. At the risk of saying things over and over. All my gennies go into an auto transformer and I only produce 240 on all generators and inverter, so the gennies are never out of balance, especially important on something as small as a 3.7. So I can easily suck 3.7 off one 120 leg and if it were not for the transformer, you would hear the genny somewhat unhappy.

My Deere 6200 seems to wet stack, if that what the greasy black goo on the hood and loader is. It has 1800 hours and never gets worked hard except maybe blowing snow. Never done any ground engaging field work.

Yes, it has 240 and 120 outlets. I use the 240 to power the house at night when the load low,. Basically the 2 fridges, 2 freezers and fireplace insert blower... and enough lights so I can make it to the bathroom or outside to pee.
