Stretching Barbed Wire

Bummer. All I see is a big blank after your post.

My security software won't let me see in-line videos. It's not safe you know. Do you have a YT link?

I liked your video and subscribed to your page. My goal for this winter is to build a goat fence and I will be using barbed wire for the bottom and top of the fence. I really need to buy that attachment for holding on to the wire, that worked pretty good!!!

I've stretched it with large vice grips clamped tight as possible then pull with a ratchet come along.
Not sure if it's right but works well.

For attaching wire to your “puller”, search: “fence wire grip” or “fence wire puller”.
The modern ones look a bit different than the ones dangling from every old block and tackle set I have, but are probably safer than using vice-grips.

First strand of wire gets installed end-post to end-post, and loosely tightened (oxymoron) before intermediate posts get set, right?

Edit for controversy: Should the barb wire be rolled out from the top or the bottom of the roll? (-TBN version of the toilet paper debate 🥴)

Saw two guys stretching and tying cyclone fence one post at a time. They got to the eighth post and the first two posts cam out of the ground. There are lots of thing can be done wrong.

Thank for the primer on wire! Another guy ordered three rolls of wire std (soft) wire. On the dock he was given three rolls of high-tensile. He didn't realize the mistake until he went to string it up, and the store was 'too far away' to take it back.

btw, IIRC wire should be rolled out from the top, according to the guy who invented the wire holder.

No wait, that was the guy who invented the paper roll holder. :p

Wire Stretcher used to be a pretty common tool used for fencing.

I've always built the end H braces, rolled out and tightened fully the bottom wire, put in the rest of the posts, and then rolled out the rest of the wire

I can't imagine it matters which way the wire is rolled, but I've been wrong once before :)
