NAPCO 4wd is popular and very collectable...

Generally no issue with lack of ground clearance.

I think Subaru came out with one of the first low profile 4wd whereas previous 4wd came with high ground clearance.

I remember paying 16 cnets a gallon for gasoline. I also got a set of drinking glasses, my oil checked, all windows cleaned, tire pressure checked.
This was about 1969 when the had these things called GAS WARS, where one station would try and beat the station across the street and so on and so forth till
the price hit rock bottom.

At the time we has so much gasoline we didn't know what to do with it all. Then a funny thing happened the war was over in Vietnam and all of a sudden we has gas lines a fuse shortage
just like that.

I can go back farther and remember me an my buddy would help people put their groceries in their car for tips. All we needed in tips was 50 cents then we would get out of there.

25 cets to get into a double feature and 25 cents for all the candy you could eat at the theater. Early 60's

24.9 at USA Station in Oakland was the least I paid... remember it being 75 cents in 1978 and people thought life as we know it ended... odd/even rationing unless you had a commercial plate.

$1 would buy a burger and shake but then I was earning $50 a week...

What's ironic is the cost to put a simple roof on a Craftsman Bungalow is 3 times what the home cost new... roof included.

Of course minimum wage isn't $1.65... it's $15 here for the last couple of years.

Gas Wars... just a couple of years after gas rationing. Go figure... I remember a tale which ran in Reader's Digest, back when that magazine was worth reading. Two gas station owners kept lowering their prices one day. At the end of the day, watching his competitor drop prices one last time; the other guy got into his truck, drove across the street and filled his tank.
McDonald's was advertising a dollar would buy a burger, fries, soft drink and... change!

My tire stores can usually get me in the same day. Sometimes they have to order certain sizes, but if they know before noon, they'll have them early the next morning.

There is a large regional tire store in the PNW called Less Schwabs, i think. Their claim to fame is their employees literally run to meet you as you drive into their lot. I never believed it until.

I bought a used trailer, dual axis, with what looked like new tires. That's when I learned about date codes on tires, mine were 10 years old but looked brand new.

I left Portland oregon 4am Sunday morning, an hour later, still dark, some gal pulls up next to me on the freeway screaming and pointing. I'd had a blow out on the trailer and didn't know it.

In the trailer was my 1988 BMW 325 convert, still got it, all my tools and a baby grand piano, etc etc etc. Had that crashed it would have been a yard sale for the ages.

I pull off, find a motel and the gal says, there is a Less Schwabs tire shop 1 mile away and they just opened.

I pull in and a kid comes running, I couldn't believe it. I told him what happened, he looked, old tires. He pointed to a large tent area, I pulled in and was out in well under an hour and while I waited I watched. All the employees were either running or trotting all the time.

I'm not sure how they specify that in the job application.

It was amazing, i see why they are successful!

There is a local tire company that gave us great service. One Saturday I had several soccer games to referee. I stopped at the house between games and there were two messages on the answering machine. The first message was from my wife saying she had not one, but TWO flat tires. The second message was from a stranger saying they had found my wife's billfold. As the story unfolded, my wife changed one tire and got enough air in the other tire to make it to the local tire store. Remember, she has no ID or money. They looked us up in the computer, saw how many tires we had bought (two adult drivers and two teen drivers) and put on new tires with the promise she would come back and pay. The person that found the billfold was military and refused any compensation.

A day that started bad, but restores your faith in humanity. By the way, this local business has several stores and we had never done business with that particular store.
