Since we're discussing cars. This pic is of my Great Grandfather that immigrated from Germany in 1898. First car he ever owned. Possibly only car he ever owned. :)

You don't see a lot of old pictures like that.

Mostly family pictures, or couples, group scenes,or single portraits.

It was a life changing moment for him. Would be like you or I buying a space craft.

Wow. Way cool!

Terry and I were just talking about this the other day. Our kids will have nothing like this to pass onto their great grandkids. Pictures are all Digital. When was the last time you saw someone 40 or younger looking at a photo album or package of pictures from present time. Kinda sad.

In a couple days my family will gather here in the shop for a feed and then a few hours of digging thru hundreds of old pictures, including this one.

Maybe it's just a German Thing.

Not my FIRST vehicle (maybe the last, who knows) but it was my FIRST DIESEL.

THANK YOU OTTO!

A similar pic. This is my Grandfather, Great Grandfather's Son, proudly displaying his team and fancy buggy. At the time my Great Grandfather bought his car, this type of team/buggy was the common form of transportation. What a transition to have lived with!!!! And where would my Great Grandfather get the knowledge to keep the ole Model T running?

Back in late '69, I bought a '69 Nova SS 396, 375 hp, 4 speed. Drove it as a daily driver until '72. Sold it to a friend and he promptly wrecked it, almost killing himself in the process.
Then in 2010, I saw a '70 Nova SS 350 for sale in WI. It was the same color, maroon, as my old '69. Drove up and looked it over, agreed on a price and brought it home the next weekend. I drove it for three of years until rust started popping out in a few places. One thing led to another, doesn't it always, and I ended up doing a complete sub-frame off restoration. Lots of metal replaced, and now the body shell is like new. Other more pressing projects have taken precedence up until now, but in the spring I'm going to get it put back together.

And yes, it had '68-'69 front fenders on it when I bought it. I'm sure there was a story behind that.

Those Novas were sleepers. Considerably lighter than a Chevelle. In my dragracing days with my Mustang I stood back and watched for a bit before challenging a Nova. Chevelles, bring it in a short race. They weighed 700-1000 lbs more than me.

Beautiful car. Hope you start a thread here about your restoration project!!!

I had a friend who raced a lot back in the 60's and 70's and he wanted to see how quick the '69 was. I already had headers on it and 4.56 gears, so we did some tuning and adjusting, and he was able to turn a 12.52 ET at 106 mph at the local drag strip.

Yes, I'll start a thread when I get started putting it back together. It's going to be quite a project.
I'm still torn on what color to paint it, the body tag shows that it was originally Cortez Silver, which I really like too.
