Any time a courier has outsourced to a contractor here, has been excellent. They are usually small single person outfits, that are invested in keeping their gig and providing good service. Big outfits, the BS just gets burried in the noise. No accountability, ever. The only answer to any problems is always just an endless stream of "aplologies", and now let's move on to yet more BS! They don't even hear the BS they spew. They don't and won't help you and then ask if there is anything else they can "help" you with.

I'm livid at the moment with (unrelated to this) BELL. All I wanted to do was update my credid card info. In the end, not posssible. (For MY protection!).

GPS is not always useful, anyone using GPS usually pulls into my neighbors driveway 1/4 mile down the road from me. That's where most of them send you. Luckily my neighbor is used to this for these occasion when it's someone not used to delivering in this area. Funny thing is that all the driveways are clearly marked with house numbers, so it's obvious whoever they're hiring is not smart enough to read

Same here. GPS won't get you here. People don't listen when I tell them that and suffer accordingly.

I was under the impression that UPS doesn't use independents for delivery, though they sometimes do for trucking.

I recently saw a Help Wanted ad for UPS drivers using their own private vehicles. The ad said $38 per hour. We live in crazy times.

FedX and CanPar deliver right to the door. Canada Post will come up the driveway in summer. Winter time she just leaves a card in the box.

A TBA... package showed up in my, yes, IN MY MAILBOX.
I looked at name, near address, and called correct recipient (elder lady), and told her machine a package was 'in my box'.
(I can't blame her for ignoring, etc.)
After 3 days I called Amazon (TBA's are not public trackable, AMZN 'self delivered').
1st call responded with email - "It's YOURS to dispose of".
2nd call hung up on me - "only response is keep it".
3rd call, a great kid pretended I was returning my last order with no refund, had UPS print a pickup ticket and set it up.
I realized the UPS driver would actually know the mailbox law and not touch it, so I posted a permission sheet on the mailbox.
Guy read the sheet, took it with him, took the package!

I really didn't want any more exposures (100 pk yr smoker), didn't know what was in the package, know I'm responsible for my debris at the dump, etc.

Shocked Bezos didn't plan for (what I reasonably assume is) a common error.

Yeah, GPS can be a great tool, but it can get you lost if you don't know the area. Like you, a GPS (as well as Google maps) will put you 1/4+ miles away from my house, what's amusing is that the two don't agree which direction they're off! :laughing:

I always give directions to visitors coming here from away...a GPS will take them a very roundabout route.

All 3 having problem keeping there word when it comes to over night delivery and you don't get a refund either.

I wonder how much of that is that certain vendors (Amazon anyone?) give unrealistic expectations that don't jibe with the reality of transporting goods. Yeah, you can advertise, and convince people to pay a subscription for "free" next day delivery, but there are 1001 potential bottlenecks along the way. Does anyone really need half the stuff they order the next day?

As far as the delivery services go, I can't say I've had bad experiences with any of them. I've seen Fedex make Sunday deliveries, UPS & USPS not. Again, nothing so important that I need it that fast.

Our normal drivers are good. This time of year, UPS and FedEx hire seasonal temp workers to meet demand. Some are good, others are terrible.

Last year FedEx did not deliver a package two days in a row, with excuses like weather delay, exception, etc. On the third day it got to 5pm and I checked tracking and there was another exception. So I got on the horn to FedEx and finally got through to a person and asked what was going on. They put me in contact with the local depot and the manager there called the driver and said turn your truck around and deliver the package now. Come to find out that if the temp decides they have had enough for the day, often times they will just make up an excuse for the remaining packages and shift them to the next day.

Well guess what, same thing happened last week. Three days in a row with "weather delay" yet it was crisp clear weather. Made a call, same routine, and it got delivered first thing next morning.

I have to wonder what would happen if I never called to complain. Return to sender?

Yesterday I had a UPS pkg delivered by a fellow in a small van. I asked him "where is your truck"?. He said "I am a private contractor and deliver for them in this area (of Arizona) when they are busy." News to me.

Our address for work ends in "B". There is also C-H that are down a side road and behind us. I think "A" is the little security guard shack on the edge of our lawn closest to the road.

If I could collect $5 for each truck turning around in the yard I would be eating lunch like a king and still turning a profit.

Funny we have had good luck up until recently. They listed something undeliverable. Our driveway is 600 feet long but paved, who knows what went wrong.

I had a Farmi logging winch delivered by UPS. I live out in the country on a cul-de-sac. I was astounded when I was told by UPS the only lift gate truck they have was a semi. And they told me they would probably have to drop it off at the intersection of the cul-de-sac and the main road. I gave them a lot of grief, telling them they needed better drivers because there have been many big trucks navigate to my cul-de-sac (think moving vans).
As it turned out it was a non-issue. I knew the driver when I worked a receiving department and he drove for a freight line. I just wonder what happens in the city if someone needs a lift gate delivery? It amazes me that supposedly UPS does not have any lift gate straight trucks.

I found out that UPS Ground and UPS freight are different entities. UPS ground comes here frequently (as does other delivery trucks) but UPS freight won't. I live on a State highway and they won't stop on the highway or pull into our dirt road driveway. I've had LoBoy's delivering excavators, bulldozers, roller compactors pull onto the shoulder or into my ranch to unload. I've had a FedEX (with a 53' trailer) back into my ranch and down between trees and a curvy road to make a pickup. But, UPS Freight will not, I had to go to their freight terminal for the pickup even thou it was supposed to have been sent as "to your door delivery". It weighted 300#, was on a pallet, and I have a forklift.

Seems to me that Automatic Status Reporting systems are becoming less and less to be trusted. When you really look into a particular matter, you realize it's all just BS and no reasonable explanations are ever offered.

I suspect UPS can no longer keep up with all the others doing the private subcontractor delivery nonsense.
I too no longer trust ANY of the mail delivery systems, especially USPS.

A UPS deliver person in a UPS uniform, not my regular guy, pulled up in a Budget Rent-A-Truck a few days ago to make a deliver. I asked him about the truck. He said it is UPS on a budget.

Maybe a regional thing? Don't think I've ever had a UPS delivery that wasn't one of their standard brown trucks. I'd imagine they're under a lot of pressure to keep costs down due to pressure from high volume retailers.
As far as regular drivers go, I don't know if there's just a lot of turnover at the depot near me or if the drivers don't have set routes because I rarely see the same guy twice.

It really is. There was a time when you could go to the website and find the exact status of your package. Now it simply says "your package is in transit." No joke, Sherlock!
