Is there a title to a tractor?

You can't legally buy a pistol at a gun show without a background check. Anyone attempting to selling a pistol as cash and carry is breaking federal law. Rifle and shotguns... sure. Never pistols. If you want to buy my pistol, you have to meet me at a dealer and get your background done.

There is nothing I would care to own, regardless of price, if there was a hint that it was stolen. Not even if it were a gift to me. I could not enjoy it. That is my conscience talking in my ear.

Unless the original owner had specific firearms coverage, he probably collected exactly nothing!

Have insurance companies changed their policy's?

Most will cover firearms last I checked.....as with anything....as long as you have proof. No different than any other stolen goods.

I will say that most do have a limit on firearm coverage.....like $5000 or something without specifically requesting greater coverage (and paying more obviously)

Just paid mine off have not gotten a title or anything just a pay off letter from kubota.

If there is no title what do you do when you sell it to transfer owner ship?

There is no title on any Kubota, just a signed off bill of sale. Far as selling it, the signed off bill of sale / paid off note papers are the proof of ownership. Titles are motor vehicle documents, not tractors. Wow 42 comments....

Tractors do have titles and therefore license plates in Europe. We don't pay any more taxes by having a title on a tractor, contrary to what happens on a on road vehicles. We do pay lots of taxes on On road vehicles, but that's another story.

New tractors can't be sold without a title, however, there are cases where the tractors doesn't have a title, like on what happens with grey market tractors. These tractors were imported as scrap, so they can't technically have a title and can't legally drive on a public road.

Some years ago, it was possible, somehow, to register a grey market tractor and have a title and license plate. Having a title on a grey market tractor, increases the resale value anywhere from €1000 to €2500.

As an example, a Kubota B7000 without title has a resale value around €3500. With title it will go as high as €5000.

Stolen tractors will pop up for sale every now and then. We can see right away that something looks fishy because the asking price will be a lot lower and it won't have a license plate, with the exception of the grey market ones.

About 20 years ago a program was put in place to track off-highway equipment due to increasing theft. A PIN (Product Identification Number) system was created using a 17 character ID like the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) for on-highway. Equipment makers wanted PIN to differentiated from vehicles. John Deere and Caterpillar adopted this system. Caterpillar PINs, for example, start with the manufacturer code CAT - the first 3 characters of the PIN identify manufacturer. Kubota only partially adopted the system. My tractors have a 4 or 5 digit serial number but my construction equipment SVL-75-2 has a 17 character PIN plate. I’m not sure if there is a national database but Caterpillar does track owners - provided private sale change of ownership is given to a dealer to enter. I do not know if Kubota has the same owner tracking and I don’t know if it ever was implemented like it is on cars. Of course this doesn’t guarantee no lien but one can track ownership. Why Kubota doesn’t use this theft deterrent ID system on tractors is unknown. I also don’t know if it help recover stolen machines, but I did have to help implement on my product line at Cat - it involved locating a place on the machine to stamp the “hidden” PIN stamped into the frame so it’s not obvious to a thief but can be verified by a dealer.

Good stuff!!! The PIN of the JD road grader I run is 1DW672GXVKF700***. Last three are numbers. Identifies a "Deere Works" model 672G road grader. I was getting some parts a while back and identified the model machine I had and they asked for the last six of the PIN. Once I identified brand/model they had the first 11 digits.

In contrast, the S/N of my Kubota tractor is a simple 5 digit number.
