Dang you John. Got an email from tooltopia 4 batteries, dual charger and the 14" saw (makita) $379 + free shipping.
I'll let you know how it works in a week or so.

You are going to love it. I bought the same kit early this spring, and have used it extensively, I have an outdoor boiler, a wood furnace in my barn, and a wood stove in the living room, so I am always cutting wood. No, I don't cut everything with that Makita, I have Stihl and a Husqvarna for most of it. The Makita is so nice for limbing, and smaller trees, up to 12 inches no problem. Quite often I will go out in my woods and cut a bucket full, always have battery power left over. With the dual charger that it comes with and 4 batteries I always have power, by the time you use up the first 2 batteries the other 2 are charged. It is the first saw I grab now, unless I know I am going to be cutting bigger stuff. My son and a friend have used it, and are very impressed, or maybe just surprised. I think you will be very happy with it, I know I am. Enjoy
Bill

I use the 18" Ego with a 7.5ah battery. Had it for about 1.5 years and it is a little beast. I hate &^$#*& with 2cycle so my chain saw, pole saw, blower, weedeater and finish mower for near the house are all EGOs. They have come a long way. For the saw I have been taking down some pulp loblolly pines in the back. I can fell and hack up about 7-15 of these on a single battery charge (I do have 2 batteries 5ah and 7.5ah so can swap when needed). They charge pretty fast too. Been happy with them, and fairly surprised with the power.

Got the saw, turns out that it comes with 5AH batteries  and similar to these cordless manufacturers other tools - buy the (included) batteries and the tool and charger is free.

I like the saw and it will fit in and play well with the others. It's kinda neat to just pull the trigger and go even though all my gas saws are very dependable starters. The quiet is a nice bonus and I like it.
Money wise, I got 4 batteries at a very good price ($95ea), they'll work with all my Makita stuff and are bigger @ 5ah, and they threw in the saw and a dual charger for free.
The group of batteries from 2015 are showing their age, not to the point that I'm segregating them form the others yet, but I knew that a new group of batteries would be in order soon and they are all the 3ah's.
With these circumstances I'm very happy with the saw and deal, not that it's not a good deal but needing batteries anyway sure sweetened the pot.

Don’t feel bad, I’ve got a batch of Makita 18v tools, so I fell for it also.

I haven’t really given it a workout, but I made about a dozen cuts on a 12” log. Cut fast and the batteries still showed all bars for a full charge. Hard to say power wise, but I don’t think that my trusty old Stihl 026 would have been measurably faster.

Congrats on the new saw! I was gonna get the top handle version because it would have replaced my trimming arborist saw, I couldn’t really see a difference in the two styles (Top handle vs back handle) as far as capability or bar length, just seems like they are different shapes with same motors but I didn’t dig that deep in comparisons.

I still haven’t pulled the trigger on one, but think I will eventually, one of these days lol.

Is the battery charger a single or duel?

As far as batteries go, the 5ah batteries haven’t been out long, few years maybe. I bought some knock off 6ah batteries on Amazon and I go months in between charges running my impact and drills lol but again I’m not running them every day now. My job supplies all the tools. They have Bosch and Milwaukee tools which I don’t care for. I do like the Milwaukee cordless blower, I’m around air handlers that suck in a lot of fresh air so gas powered tools are a big no no. To clean leaves and stuff up off the rubber roof (preventative maintenance) with a shop vac in the past was really a chore, cordless leaf blower made a tremendous difference.

I really would like a cordless Makita blower in 36v but when I look at the price of one I’m reminded that I don’t need it that badly lmfao.

The charger is dual, and charges quite fast.

Is there a case to carry the charger and batteries? One video I watched mentioned batteries getting damaged if you have to carry more than two on the saw. Curious if there was a safe way to transport the batteries.

How is the weight of the battery saw compared to its gas counterpart? When I looked into it, the battery top handle actually weighed 3lbs more than my stihl arborist gas saw I have now. One reason I really liked the arborist saw was because it’s light weight, easy to one hand limb branches, gave me more reach from one spot, handy for use on a ladder.

Battery powered saws always seem heavier than comparable gas saws.
