What have you done to your shipping container?

That would work pretty well to have a carport between two containers. One for storage and one for an office living quarters.

My plan for the carport is for trailers, box blade, forks, maybe racks for tubing and lumber, etc.

I put an 8'x4' hanging shelf in mine. It is suspended by chain that is attached to the tie-down hooks that are welded along the top of the walls. The shelf pretty much reclaims the wasted space above the Polaris Ranger's front end.

I like that hanging shelf idea. I could store my tiller under it and pile smaller stuff on the shelf. Or I could even park an ATV under the shelf.

I made a similar shelf in one of ours where we store our 4x4 buggy too but your idea (with the chains) rocks. I must do that.
The other container is just a temporary man cave for my gear until I can build my shed.

Question - what is the smallest size (length?) shipping container? I could use one to keeo our Garden Tractors out of the weather.

I have a 20' shipping container and I believe that to be the most commonly available short container. I think there are others that may be shorter, but would be for specialty cargo and not readily available. (I've seen what appeared to be a 10', but it was a frame around a tank with a radiation label on it.)

Great shelf!

Thanks.

I'll pass on a recommendation for anyone considering a shelf like this. On the wide span (wall to wall), be sure to orient the 2x4s on the narrow dimension, not as I did in my photo. After a couple of years, my shelf was sagging. I took it apart and placed the long 2x4s on edge and then reattached everything else. MUCH BETTER! I use the shelf mainly to store lumber cut-offs, partial sheets of plywood, etc. and it can get heavy pretty quickly. With the 2x4s properly oriented correctly, it doesn't sag anymore. Depending on your needs, you could easily stack a pair of these to make better use of the space. This was made from scrap lumber I had laying around. The only thing I bought new was the hardware.

I have a 40 ft container with some shelves in it. Great storage, but a pain to get in and out of. My wife can't open the doors, so every time she needs something, I have to get it for her. My long term goal is to build a dog kennel where it's at, so I've gone back and forth on either using it for part of the kennel, or moving it somewhere else. I'm leaning towards moving it, but struggling to think of where I can put it so it's not an eye sore, easy to get to, and not have to be moved again. And then maybe removing the doors and framing in a wall and installing a regular 36 inch exterior house door.

First thing you do is clean it and paint it an appropriate color to blend in to the surroundings.

The dimensions are annoying for many uses. Hey, it was meant to transport stuff, not storage. It's why I say, it's one reason not to go overboard. One guy on Youtube did one up as a small house for sale. Everyone marvelled at it and gave him compliments, but nobody wanted to buy it. Think he just broke even.

As soon as I mentioned I bought a 20' I got more than one friend ask you gonna make a tiny house? I told them they need to stop watching YT vids of the kids doing that. Dumb idea.

By the time you figure all the "EXTRA" work that isn't to (economics of scale and standard building dimensions) and all the same priced interior fittings, (and maybe higher priced smaller versions) WHAT's THE POINT? Except, you can pretend you're living in a rail car.
