Before 4 wheel drive and snow plows for plowing roads, I wonder how many put tracks on Model T's, it was just a 100 years ago that some had these I guess.......

Those old Model T's were pretty versatile. My Dad told me they mad a conversion kit for those things that would turn them into a tractor of sorts. He said my Granddad plowed his farm with one for a year or two until they could get a regular tractor.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't the old International Scouts have many farm type implements offered as add on's?

1st generation Scout 60-65 was basket of knowledge IH collected during WW-2 + Korea tucked into civilian body wid little engine. Perfect replacement for her Henry J according to baby sister.

Perfect for custom pie & bread racks in back.
My opinion NOT sought.

Nicest part in my head was ability to pull floor and swap transmission in rain widout getting wet. Could even put 4x4 across window sills to lift transmission. Next best part, good supply of rebuilt transmissions. Plenty clutches available too.

Never saw or heard of farm equipment for Scout. Jeep had PTO & 3 point hitch available. Might have had lower speed in low range too for off road pulling.

Doodlebugs - tractor kits for Model T from Sears probably first easy conversion.

Dey only go so far and guys looking to trade following horse or mule wanted more. Pretty much top of line was Buick car wid tandem transmission and rear end from 2 ton truck wid dual tires and chains for more traction. Trick was to get long enough to accomodate transmissions and short enough to act like tractor. Mechanicle brakes easy to split to shorten turning radius. Really good ones had Duff Norton screw jack hooked to Transmission to raise & lower tool on back sort of like 3 point. Accessory limited only by mind of man building machine and what he could get to work wid.
Lot of ground driven implements still around in 50s made bugs way to go for lot of folks and America and Europe fed.

Farmer wid talent usually had 1 in field workin and 1 in barn gettin built.

All they were doing was driving down an embankment, and on a rutted road. I used to do stuff like that with a '70 Nova.
I did too, usually after a few drinks.
The way I should have said it was 100 years ago with one wheel drive and those super skinny tires and 20 horsepower...to me that's impressive. There are other better videos also. Most modern trucks, Hummers, etc hardly are ever driven on grass.
Imagine what roads were like then? Even in the 50s I remember lots of dirt (not gravel) dirt roads. Mud after rain, fording creeks.

i dont want anything that thinks for itself. i can engage or disengage 4x4 as needed. i dont need a thermostat that i can program with phone. i dont want to pay bills online. i long for the days before you had to be in constant connection all the time. ohoh...what did i do with my phone. i had it 3-4 hours ago. i better go find it.

Some of that is personal choice. Very few people NEED to be reachable anytime, anyplace. For the rest of us, there's no need to carry a cellphone 24/7, yet there's such a fear of missing something that most do these days.

As far as 4WD goes, I've really come to like the Quadratrac in the last 2 Jeeps I've had. RWD most of the time, but if the tires start to spin it shifts power to the front wheels as needed.
I rarely pay bills online, but the option is nice to have if I space it and discover that my Visa bill is due tomorrow.

The old mercury thermostats gone with digital in there place.... now no heat with low battery... porch lights replaced with compact florescents so tenants call when light bulb goes out...

I guess it's progress but in reality creates service calls and expense for owner.

Well, incandescent bulbs burned out too, and if someone wasn't smart enough/willing to change a CFL they probably won't change an incandescent either.
I thought the batteries were only a backup in modern thermostats, that they were also powered from the furnace/AC.

I remember my school bus driver, a female, stopping during snowy trips home and putting on the chains. Today they don稚 carry chains and shut down school at a flurry.

Yeah, school was almost never cancelled when I was growing up. I'm sure it's a liability issue.

All the apartments have millivolt wall furnace...

Never a single thermostat call in 20 years for entire building... how I wish for yesterday!

Mercury is easily recycled and never goes bad and sealed in a glass vial.

I wonder how many batteries to dispose generated over decades?

Never bought an Edison Bulb for a tenant.... Tenants don't buy compact florescents... at least not in Oakland... several of the energy saver fixtures went bad so more waste...
