Cell phones....3g, 4g, and 5g

So what power, recourse, "hero(s)" do we as the end consumer have?
Little and none as far as I can see.
If there's any justice at all there ought to be a way to make "them" live up to the hype they're pushing.

There is also a problem with the change in web pages. Back when 3g was the fastest, web pages had to be efficient to work on cell phones. Now with the increased power of the phone and the faster connections, the web is bloated. The developers don't really think anyone important is going to be using a slow connection.

Ahh... there is some truth to the whole web "experience" and the into the bits and bytes of the supporting infrastructure. Poor network design, routing, server location, server type, server size, database structures, locations, size, programming techniques, etc. etc.

Bigger fasters may overcome some poor design aspects, but sooner or later it catches up to the end user.

You know - I don't give a good darn about how many "G's" my cell phone has. I have an Apple Iphone XR and all I want it to do is make phone calls. It seems to do that fairly well. It's my only phone and that's all I use it for.

Thank you ........

I was one of the last people I associate with to get a smart phone. They do have their place for things other than phone calls. Having the internet at my fingertips anywhere and everywhere to research things or seek answers to problems.

Like down in the shop working on the tractor or a vehicle. Rather than go to the house all grubby because I need to google something...I just whip out the ole phone. Its a time saver for sure

Agree web pages have gotten more bandwidth "hungry".....But when 4g used to be capable of 25-30Mbps.....which is more than adequate for any modern webpage....
To now being slowed to a mere 3-5 Mbps.....its a PITA

I especially like the ability to play my own music through my booming Bluetooth connected speakers when working in the barn or my BT headphones on the tractor.

And I can build my Amazon orders throughout the day when I'm in the shop.

By the way; I heard something about 6G on the way.

Oh my. They are still installing 5G towers here but I doubt we will get it being out in the country. 4G LTE works for me.

When I was your age we had only one "G" and it was usually lowercase.

Commercial is over, back to regular programing.

Look at number Chinamen slapping GGGGG phones together so dey can't be fixed.
Look at number of suckers standing in line outside store to get new phone when it comes out.
Look at lines of people wid 'phones' in 3rd world
Talk to idiot in phone store promising hunk of plastic will meet your need. If it don't, TOUGH. Buy another one. NO REFUND!

You think apple or phone company care about you, look at how system built out in 80s. Dense population area first, Interstate corridor next, rural last, same as cable TV. Only built when forced and crap level service.

Suckers are addicts, just like Coke. Hook in fish mouth, no need to add more bait.

Dat why US has worst celular on Earth at highest cost.
Now watch your sport show & complain on internet.
Don't forget, pay or get disconnected from world.

Never mind cell service, which was better here 25 years ago than it is now; I can go weeks on end and never see more than 2 bars on my phone. I used to be able to make calls from anywhere...
For almost a year my home broadband has been s-l-o-w. My ISP says there's nothing wrong so I've tried this, that, and the other, thinking that it must be my DIY wiring. Nada. Recently spent $45 on a replacement wire from the pole to my house, switched to a spare router which they sent me 6 years ago, nothing. The internet will be OK-sort of- for a few minutes then will crash and I have to reboot the router yet again. I was trying to find some other thing to try when I was talking to my neighbor; it turns out the entire town with that ISP is having the same problem. The only alternative is Hughes, so they essentially have a monopoly.
