I've heard him referred to as the Jackie Robinson of country music but i'm pretty sure there was a black guy who performed on the Grand Old Opry in the 20s, THE 1920s.

He was loved by his piers. To me, that says it all, your peers really know you. 2 peers, which ones correct!
