5 day waiting period to buy a chainsaw?

Yeah, but they could use a battery powered one.
Just a little push button.

Trust me, in areas just outside of portland oregon, they know how to use chain saws. I flew into Portland constantly. What you do not see from your car are the huge huge clear cuts. They sell the logs to the virus people for nothing and, just off shore, the virus people make plywood on a factory ship and sell it right back to us. Called value added.

A quick story that both illustrates oregon logging and my love for my fellow man.

I bought a run down 7 acre hobby farm outside or Portland. Norman Rockwellian. The original builder was great but in 30 years it had slipped quite a bit. Mostly 7 acres and above kinda neighborhood. Before I moved in I asked a few neighbors if anyone had any plans to develop the 60 acres kitty corner to me. Nobody knows Nothing!

Turns out it was a paper co and they, by law, must send a letter to neighbors, 1 year in advance, prior to clear cut. All my neighbors knew and not one told me. The realtor lady also knew so when I threatened to sue her she about pooped. I should have sued her just for the sport.

If you ever saw the tv show about loggers there were 3-4 crews. 1 was of the crews was from just outside Portland. They were the ones who did it. No tv in this case.

Found out the lady who owned the house prior to me was a basket case, vodka. The neighbors just wanted her gone.

Remodeled both houses and got outta town ASAP. Amazing how quickly man can destroy what took mother nature decades to build.

BTW....I actually learned something. If a forest is only 1 species of tree, it's a farm and it's coming down, sooner or later. I currently own a tree farm but coming from wisconsin, i'm not sure how to milk it!

In line with your Wisconsin heritage, may you should just use the grab and PULL method with your trees?

Not quite.
Milking involves ..... squeezing and pulling,..... as in the ruffdog post above.

They clear cut a lot up here. Hate to see it but they replant and it grows back.... 50 years later they do it again. Not many can process BIG old growth anymore, too big for the modern tree harvesting operations. So many of these trees areas you see are crop.

We ran into a similar issue when searching for our property in Virginia. We were living in SC at the time, and ran up on countless weekends to view properties. Early on we ran across a realtor from central VA who told us, If you see Pine trees, you will see stumps soon enough. We never forgot that, and changed our tactic and location pretty quick. Not that we don't have logging here along the Blue Ridge, but nowhere near the clear cutting of the Pine area's.

We don't even need to plant here, generally there are too many small trees to start with. I do wonder why people complain about what somebody else does with their land though... maybe I should tell my neighbor to paint their house because it's an ugly color?

Both you and I would have trouble living on Nantucket.
Replacing a window on an "historic" house requires approval by a town board.
I live in a 290 year old house.....but not on Nantucket.
