Ruger will lay next to the stove soaking up the heat, often until he's panting heavily. I'm not sure whether it's just the warmth or if he's guarding it to ensure I don't leave without him. (He also will sit outside by the truck until I come out, on days that I tell him he's staying home.)
A couple of Christmases ago a winter storm brought cold weather and significant snow. It stopped just before dark so ]he went out and watched when I went out to plow. The driveway was about half done when he decided he'd had enough and it was time to go inside. After letting him in I finished the driveway and went to open up the road into my field.
When you get working it's easy to forget about minor things like fingers, but after a couple more hours I realized that I was COLD, and needed to get inside right now. I booked it for home and went inside. He'd been laying next to the stove all of that time and running my fingers through his fur was like putting my cold hands in hot dishwater... it sure felt good.
