That right there is the show stopper for most people. It's a 7 hour drive turned into a 10 hour drive.

Driving this route since 1982, at least 50 round trips and never under 8 hours nonstop. Have done 11 hours in ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicle depending on construction and road accidents. A Tesla Model 3 would need (3) stops of about 20 minutes each, the Model 3 charges faster than my 7 year old Model S, and uses 2/3rds the power.

Getting out to walk and pee every 2-3 hours is a good idea no matter what. My Subaru starts beeping if I don't.

Add to that studies show electric car range drops 17% in hot weather when air conditioning is used and 40% when heaters are used at 20F temps and you have to add up to 4 more hours to that drive turning a 7 hour drive in a gas car to a 14 hour drive in an electric car, 7 hours of which I'd be sitting at charging stations reading Tractor By Net.

The great thing about "studies" is there is aways one that says anything you want. Especially when the study author has a bias and only talks to those who tell him what he wants to hear, no matter they only heard it from someone else. I only have 7 years driving EV, mostly in Alabama where air conditioning is not a luxury but critical life support equipment. My Tesla's consumption with A/C is almost indistinguishable from not. Takes a few miles to cool down then I've not found any savings turning it off.

I have made the 540 mile trip from northern Alabama to northern Indiana 5 times in the Tesla, and 5 times back. 3 times during Christmas. Those are the numbers I cited, actual numbers in snow. The electric resistance heater sucks a lot of power the first 20 minutes or so until the cabin is warm then it is practically indistinguishable from running A/C. But, when still connected to the charging umbilical one can use the Tesla App on smartphone to remotely heat (or cool) the cabin before departure using the AC power grid not the battery. Once warm consumption stays pretty close to the EPA estimated range which my Tesla uses as a fuel gauge. I don't ever have a "half tank", I have "130 miles remaining." Pretty easy to compare to trip odometers, and the trip computer which also tracks miles and kWh since last charge.

I dont suffer from anything except an upcoming ever more oppressive government trying to ram electric cars through on people not realizing that I have different needs than theirs. Not everyone in this world can accomplish their tasks driving a little 4 seat tin can with no towing or load capacity.
Get out more, talk to more people, GC. It will open your mind and show you people want freedom. They dont want government forcing electric everything on them. If YOU want an electric car, GREAT, get one.

Maybe you need to practice reading because nothing I have said advocates any government intervention. I'm actively against. People such as yourself make excuses such as "not enough charging stations!" which the very government bureaucrats you despise used as a means to force VW to use penalty fines to build Electrify America in competition with Tesla who builds Superchargers with stockholder's money. And still, Electrify America charges $0.43/kWh, having been built with taxpayer funds. Tesla charges $0.28/kWh. I pay under $0.10/kWh at home. Dependency on government or any other public charging infrastructure is stupid but for when one is away from home.

California is littered with pissant L2 EVSEs at grocery stores, restaurants, shopping centers, etc. Darn near useless. But it kisses up to the fears of the ignorant, "Where? Oh where will I charge?" And lets Californians practice their essential virtue signaling skills.

You still dont answer and have been quite adept at dodging my question. Where do I get an electric vehicle to pull 15 tons of hay on my trailer? Where do I get an electric tractor to cut & bale 300 acres of hay? :laughing:Yet the gubmit, with its emotional spoiled brat teenager virtue signalers backing them, want to force all us who actually work and drive something other than a 4 seat tin can for a living into them, or pay a penalty for driving them. Where do I get the money to do that?
You see, youre all comfortable and smug because you can just trade cars. But me? I have to turn in 1/2 million in farming and trucking vehicles, at my expense, to comply with emotional kids who have no real world education. They have no idea how the sausage is made,,,,literally. They think they know everything because they read it on a ecology website or learned it from a college professor. They wag their little red guard finger in shame at us, but won’t do it to India or China.
The air is plenty clean, cleaner than most other countries. I say clean enough. We have cleaned up our act a LOT in the last 20 years and the air quality statistics prove it.

Maybe you are the one not reading what Gavin Gruesome is proposing? Maybe you are the one not reading what is in the green new steal?
You want your moral superiority from driving your electric car? Knock yourself out. But dont go dropping stool on my lifestyle because I dont want it.

Now I believe you are a deliberate troll. You say government, government, government, yet say that I am promoting government.

Once again the record is here for all to see. You make false claims and have been corrected, yet unable to comprehend the words written. You repeat false data from those such as yourself who have no experience with what is being claimed. You put false words in my mouth because you have no better base to stand on. You react as shown above when faced with real data as to what a seven year old EV can do.

You are too obtuse to realize I fully agree with your postion on government.

Who is talking about the old iron being taken away from us? Yes in 2050 diesel tractors may be fading away. In fact most of us will no longer be posting here. Does my $12K Nissan EV also intimadate you like a Tesla does?

I doubt that a Prius, Leaf or a Tesla scares anyone, I for one see the typical driver of one, and chuckle
