Weird Weather

Holy cow on the branches. We visited one of our kids in Stillwater the day after that ice storm. We were there for a week and saw no one removing branches except to push them off the sidewalks. I know it was widespread damage, as we saw it in OKC and Tulsa as well. What's the holdup reasoning? Pandemic labor issues, lack of funds? Just curious, as whenever we have widespread damage like that, it's usually gone in a couple weeks.

Our snowfall yesterday after the coating of ice made a very similar scene. Not much accumulation in total. A nice coating everywhere. It's just started to fall off the branches as the temps are 34 now. I'm letting it melt the cars off instead of scraping. :)

It's gotten so that whenever there's an ice storm or hurricane predicted anywhere on the eastern seaboard, I see fleets of bucket trucks with Canadian plates headed south down the interstate. A few weeks later I'll see fleets of bucket trucks with Canadian plates headed north toward home.

We get them from several states as well. Likewise, ours go elsewhere when needed. But that's just the power line stuff. They don't do residential cleanup. That's left to homeowners, landscapers, the city if inside the city limits will haul it away if it's cut and bundled. They'll do more in emergencies. So will the county.

I was just surprised at the amount of downed branches just left out there in Stillwater. Our kid lives in an apartment complex that's kind of octagonal. There were lots of branches down in and around the complex. Probably two truckloads of chippings. We were there a week and no one even made an attempt at moving them, let alone chipping them up. Kid said it took over a month for them to come and get them. Something else I noticed is the entire week we were there, I never saw one chipper. I saw several landscaper pickups pulling trailers with bundled branches on them, but man, that is about the least efficient way to remove branches compared to chippers.

I was wondering if there's a difference in how things like that are handled out there compared to here.

Another thing I noticed there is that the trees are much smaller. Some kind of scrubby oak, I believe. Maybe 1/4 the height of our trees. So maybe less chippers in general as compared to here.

Considering the forecast I bought a quart of ice cream in case the power goes out. I'm not sure what one has to do with the other but it's a habit which I've gotten into... it seems like bad weather makes people panic buy and I already have about anything else I need to survive for a month or so...

We were lucky in NE Indiana, just a day of spitting freezing rain, Satellite Dish froze up a few times, a few hours later it melted off......

Next spring spray paint dish with Never Wet 2 part coating snow doesn't stick may help with freezing rain
