What would be the MINIMUM truck needed to haul 3K (Lil Blue on a 6x10 or 12 trailer)?. No chance of new, 80s/90s is fine, brand and appearance/fluff unimportant, reliability is.
Old thread bump.

Driving into town today I spotted a Toyota Tacoma on a lot. Neighbor has one and loves it. Uses it every day and has literally beat the tar out of it and it keeps on ticking. Towing Capacity clocks in at 3500 based on multiple websites.

Stopped in to ask about it and they want 7 grand. Way too high for me for an '03. Got home and started checking the Bay's motors site. Prices are all over the place, up to close to 20Gs for 03s and 04s. No freaking way!!!!!

I have 4 pick up trucks now. A 2017,2018,2020 and a 1999. ..I have posted here before about the 1999. But I bought it from a friend who was the first owner a couple years back for 2000.00 and another 600.00 to ship it from Fla to Mass. Today I'm into the truck for something north of 13,500 after fixing, replacing virtually everything on it except for the 5.4 that has piston slap when cold but still runs great. For whatever reason...I drive that truck more than anything else..I got it with 135K on it..Im at 180K now...If I can get it to go 250K...I can call it even.

If that truck was near me I would check it out, any Tacoma for $7k here is a rust bucket.

It's in really good condition visually. Looks almost new. No idea mechanically. Didn't ask about the odometer. I just though that price was way too high for a 17-18 year old vehicle, but apparently it isn't. No way I can afford it right now though.

Sold my 2000 Tundra 145K mi 2 years ago for $4500 - probably gave it away in retrospect it had a new frame, tires, etc. But was pulling out of Tractor Supply one day with a load of stuff, accelerated hard into traffic, and the transmission slipped a bit, so after 20 years decided I was ready for a new one, as I didn't want a $3K transmission cost on top of the $5K spent in previous 3 years.

2 or 4 WD? A clean truck here for that price is gone in a heartbeat.

4WD SR5 and yes, clean, owned since new, only rust was RR fender top starting to bubble a bit - you can see that in the pics. But prices for used this year have shot up a lot due to lack of inventory is what I have seen. I bought a 2018 Tundra Platinum with 8K mi with 2 yrs warranty left for $42K in Feb 2019. if you can believe the current value on the 2018 is still $42K today so its supply and demand due to Covid IMO.

Now the Tacoma's have a following so to speak, so it's not surprising to see them hitting a high number on the used market with new ones selling for $35K +.

New frame and slipping transmission before 150,000 miles? Not a good advertisement for a Toyota.

I know at least a dozen people who had their Toyota frame rot out, as bad or worse than the Jeep frame problem
