Need / want a pickup truck

   / Need / want a pickup truck #291
I have a 1998 Tacoma extended cab 4x4 with 98000 miles, 5 speed, air, V6. Uses no oil, air blows cold and never needed service. All I have done is change oil every 3k, batteries and tires, and seals on front axle. Recently took it in and had new hoses, belts, battery, plugs and wires, mechanic said was good for 200k miles. Body is like new. Every time I go to Home Depot or tractor supply some one approaches me if I would sell it. My mechanic says it would probably get 14k in our Texas market. Young guys want the 5 speed and v6 to off road. You can only get 5 speed custom ordered, and you can’t find them used that are not used up. So I am hanging onto it as a local farm errand vehicle.

When I was looking this summer no manufacturer would let me order one. I wanted an access cab Tacoma with the 6 speed, all anyone had was their gas guzzling automatic. I did look at a clean '93 4 cylinder 5 speed with around 80K miles... they wanted 20K for it. I must have missed the gold plated wheels and solid silver shifting knob...
I ended up with a 2 YO Colorado that gives me around 22 highway mileage unless I'm on the interstate doing 80- ER, I mean doing the 75 mph speed limit.

That really blew me away. Normally Toyota is such high quality and dealer here was telling me they are still replacing frames under warranty on new ones.
And the GM/Chev dealer is sending brand new trucks to the body shop to have the frames repainted because they are all rusty looking sitting on the lot new.

Run of bad steel??

Toyota is just like most other company's around the globe. They do well with some product, then they make some "ops".. We had a 2017 Tacoma for 2 years and will not get another toy made product.

Never had anything to do with companies that don't respect labor like toyota myself. Everyone makes mistakes. I'll never forget Bush and his discussion regarding the brake problems toyota was haveing due to bad design. Bush said they would have to fix the problem on all vehicles and the toy ceo said it wasn't toy's problem, people bought the cars so it was there responsibility to fix them not toyota's. Not a good company they are also not UAW

You just described every auto manufacturer there is. At least Toyota is trying... while people are getting new frames under their Toyotas; I'm junking my Ranger for that same reason. When was the last time that you heard of anybody doing a major recall on 10-15 YO vehicles? It's been 12 years since we've had a Bush for president, yet Toyota is fixing vehicles which were made during # 2's reign.
