Looking at 2 way radios with my neighbors

I personally don’t mind the drift at all, knowledge is knowledge!

I’m actually now more interested in Ham, I’m pretty sure my neighbors won’t be interested in radios, considering the cost.

I have pieces and parts to set up panic buttons for the few oldest amongst us, if need be.

Amateur radio equipment, especially VHF/UHF equipment is not particularly expensive. Some of the Chinese handhelds can be had for $30 or $40 bucks, Other better quality Japanese handhelds can be bought for as Little as $75 to $100. . 50 to 65 watt mobile rigs can be had for around $150 and with the addition of 13.8 volt power supply's can serve inside of a residence quite nicely. There are deals on used equipment all of the time. Sure HF gear capable of worldwide communication cost more, but the low end of those can be had for around $600 new, and there are many still good used ones starting at about $250 to be had. Of course it all adds up depending on what you want and the antenna systems you want. Many very effective antennas can be built by the user for next to nothing. The cost of the coax cable being the most expensive part. Much can be scrounged at hamfests. (if we ever have any of those again post Covid), and I have even seen such things given to new hams to to help them out.

I have found ham users to be more than generous with helping new hams get set up and running be it basic hardware or knowledge. Totally unlike CB.
